Squealing and low revs when the clutch is disengaged... :(

I have been skulking around the forums for a while now, using the search bar to find fixes to all my problems and such and I have run into an issue that i can't find a solid answer to.

Whenever I disengage the clutch (press the pedal) a loud squealing noise comes from the engine bay and my revs drop from idle (about 1000) to 200ish. When i take my foot off the pedal stopped and in neutral the squealing stops and the revs return to normal. I have to rev the car up to 3500-4000 rpm to keep it from bogging out when i start in first. Then the squealing returns every time i press the clutch pedal all the way up to 5th....

The the transmission was rebuilt about 28000 miles ago and the clutch, flywheel and throw out bearing replaced.. Plugs and wires are brand new.

The only other problem I am having right now is a dying battery. I had to jump my car this morning after it sat overnight. The problem started after I drove the car to work (25 miles), let it sit for 8 hours and then started it without a jump.

I am at a loss on this one.

Edit: It is a 2001 type sh all stock aside a cai

Where does the noise sound like it's coming from? Does it sound like a belt slipping?

The noise is fairly loud so it is hard to tell when I am in the car. I don't have anyone to push the clutch for me right now so I can't look for the source. I guess i could hold the clutch down with stick and look in the bay... It does sound like it could be a belt. It is just weird to me that it starts squealing when i press the clutch...

Please don't do that. You will kill yourself.

My first guess is that your alternator may have seized, since you are also having issues with the battery draining as well. If it's seized, it could make the accessory belt squeal like a mofo. Doesn't exactly fit with the whole only squealing when the clutch is engaged thing, but I'd look into that first.

Squeal in engine bay - YouTube

Here is a link to the video. You can tell when I press on the clutch pedal; that is when the squealing starts.

That is a belt squealing. When you depress your clutch the engine load may be changing just enough to cause the slip. I agree w/ Indylude that the alt may be siezing or even the A/C compressor but something is adding a load (rpm's dropping). The seized alternator makes sense cuz of the dying batt. If something is seized then the belt will just slip on the pulley and cause the squeal and xtra load from said seizure.

Loosen your alt mount and adjust bolts and see if it goes away.

Alright.. I replace the battery and altenator. My dying battery problem has been fixed! The noise didn't change at all. I'm at the conclusion that the throw out bearing is not fully disengaging the clutch and it is just grinding in there... When I drove it to the auto parts store I could smell burning when I popped the hood and my belts were not burnt or anything. I think the clutch is burning up.... I already had the pleasure of dropping the tranny on this car when my dad first bought it.. I'm gonna take it to a shop, provide the clutch and get it fixed.

My only other thought is that the slave cylinder is not working properly. In this case however, I am affraid that the clutch plate might be burned up already and who knows about the bearing.

I will be checking the slave cylinder in the morning and start getting quotes on the labor.

Any other thoughts or ideas are welcome!
