Sportshift ATF Help

Hi,

I have spent a lot of time reading posts and have gained quite a bit of knowledge regarding Preludes. I would like to thank Gerhard and the rest of the members for making this forum such a great place.

I currently own a 1997 Sportshift Prelude with 150,000km. I haven't noticed any signs that my transmission is failing. However, I am trying to take all the preventative measures I can. I hope I am one of the lucky ones. Someone in my neighbourhood has a 1998 Sportshift Prelude with 300,000km and hasn't had a problem with his transmission.

I purchased a container of Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF. I have read that quite a few of you use Mobil 1. It says on the label that you can use it in place of Honda's ATF-Z1. However, I would just like to be sure I can use it. Is this the right Mobil to use?

Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF

Thank you again for making this forum a great place.

Its says in the list on the link you provided that it will replace the Honda ATF z1, so if that is what your manula says to use(the Honda atf z1) then i would think that it would be safe to use on your tranny. However if it says in your manual that you are to use a diffrerent honda product than the Honda ATF Z1, then i would not recomend using it as it doesnt say in the list that it will replace that other product.

Trans cooler, drive slow, whether you drive in SS or D in my opinion doesn't matter at all, you just need to drive it like an old lady, no passing other cars at high speeds, no racing or high speeds in general, just calm relaxed driving, that's what saves ANY atuo trans, whether it's an SS fro a Prelude or any other, it's running your transmission hard that kills it, so if you want this one to alst a little longer, baby it, and I mean BABY it!

Good luck man.

P.S.--Oh, and that 300K Kilo SS is an amazing story! Wow, I'm not joking AT ALL! That might be the record. The highest milage I've seen to date on an SS was I think 181k miles...How many miles is 300K kilo's?

EDIT: Huhhhhh!?!?!?! IT IS! It translates to almost 186.5K miles!

Hey man, I would like to know if you can ask that guy the EXACT milage on his car, and really ask him, seriously, if he has ever had any trans issues or a trans replaced. Could you do that? I'm just curious.

pIERCE,

I asked the gentleman about his transmission and he said he has never had work done on it. I believe the odometer read 298,987km. He looked surprised when I told him that the SS transmissions are problematic.

I treat the transmission very well. However, I have had a few stop light drag races. I had to show a few people what VTEC can do
