Spoon calipers on big discs?

Okay I've seen pics of this done before...

The pics above are AEM BBK's, now apparently bought out by Powerslot.

So I got me a set of Spoon calipers with 13" Powerslot rotors, but during the install, the mechanic said the Spoons sit too close to the rotors on the side part near the edges of the calipers, as the calipers were made for smaller diameter rotors. Also, the upper part of the pads sit too far out from the rotor (overhang), so only a portion of the brake pads are pressed onto the rotor. Long story short, they said it's unsafe and can't be done, so I was stuck to leaving the Spoons onto stock discs.

I told the mechanic others have done this before (showed the pics above) but he says they are probably just "hacked in" for show where safety wasn't a priority.

I tried to contact the owner of one of the cars above but no response. Does anybody know what's involved in getting this setup done in a safe manner? I know one of them autocrosses, so I can't imagine it would be that bad... but wondering if there were a lot of custom work that needed to be done to get it to fit? And if so, what that work entails? Any other info welcomed.

Just for kicks, here is a pic of the kit when he was trying to get them in properly...

Spoon rotors are no bigger than stock. I got these rotors because I wanted bigger than stock.

I considered that kit, but couldn't pass up on the Spoons when I got a set at a (reasonably) good deal... the Spoons are so pretty!

Do you know if the Wilwoods from Fastbrakes can be ordered in colors other than black?

when you buy the aem kit or powerslots new kit you have a caliper relocating adapter. it's a really simple piece of metal that moves the caliper out 2-2.5 inches.
pics are all over the internet. what rotors did you buy? call up powerslot or the old aem number and ask for teh adapters but there's no guarantee they'll work with whatever rotors you bought.

I just installed the same rotors and the instructions clearly state there will be a small amount of pad overhang. Mine is about 1/8" overhang. I'm using OEM calipers but I'm pretty sure the OEM & Spoon calipers have the same mounting position relative to the PowerSlots.

There are plenty of bbk's out there.

AP racing, Alcon, wilwood, baer(i remember they had an application), endless, spoon, etc.

I honestly think the jdm bbk's are a little more show than actual advantage but most bbk's on street cars are just for looks anyways. All will def. lower the weight if you get floating rotors.
