Spoiler LED

First of all I'm new so I don't know if this is posted in the right place. I recently noticed that the spoiler led does not work on my lude. I know it did not come with my car cuz it has the 3rd brake light inside. Anyways, I took it off only to find out that water got inside of it and rusted some things. I have been looking for a replacement but have had no luck locally. I noticed mine was different than one of my friends because his only has 2 screws holding the light on and mine has 4. I also noticed that the words TOP RUNNERS appear on the outside, manufacturer???

Any help is appreciated

Welcome to the boards. I can't remember if the authentic Honda spoiler has two or four screws, but it definitely says Honda on it. So if you don't see it or yours says Top Runner instead, it may be a replica spoiler. To my knowledge Honda doesn't sell the led separately from the spoiler so finding one will be hard (harder even for a replica spoiler). So you're best bet is probably to buy a new spoiler. They're sold quite often in the classified and ebay and if you're lucky, you may even find one in the same color. And not to insult your intelligence, but make sure you check to see that it is wired correctly before you write it off as busted.

Actually the LED assembly is available from Honda. It sells retail for ~$135. Ask the dealership parts department if there were 2 versions. My OEM spoiler only has 2 screws. Another thing-follow the wiring harness from the trunk lid to where the 3rd brake light is hooked up. There is a connector that should be swapped so that only the spoiler lights work. If your 3rd is working that is part of your problem. You can find the unit you have doing a Google or be forced to buy another spoiler as suggested.

I find that the Top Runners spoilers are common ones to the earlier 5th Gens (97/98). I have one of those on my 97 also. It is definitely NOT OEM Honda Spoiler because of the 4 screws in the bottom. The real OEM Honda Spoiler has only 2 screws, as you would find in a SH.

As far as the brake light is concerned, it really depends on how the wire hooks up. My LED wires were connected directly to the 3rd brake light, so I would have the 3rd brake light AND the LED lighting up at the same time. I didn't like it, and I took out the 3rd brake light bulb.

Also, I find that the LED on the top runners aim low and has a dark red in color, and it is sometimes hard to see in broad daylight or from high above (SUV). So you might want to double check on that by looking up to the LED.

Good luck.

Well thanks for everyones help, but I found out where i can buy the light. First off all I am 100% certain it is broke because after i took the light off of the spoiler I opened it up, even though its not ment to be. I had to break the seal only to find water running out and some rusted parts and LEDs. I have tried calling honda and they quoted me like $150. I have spent a month looking for a replacement. Yesterday I did a different search on google and finaly got the answer i was lookin for. http://www.spoilerlights.com/ They sell replacements for ANY car i can think of. They have 6 different possible one for the 5th gen. The first one i clicked on was the one i have. This site shows you a couple of pictures of the light asembly. On top of that it gives you a diagram of the light with all the dimensions: length, width, depth, and distance between all the screws!!! It perfectly matched my light. The cool thing is they have the light in 3 different colors: red, clear, and blue. They all sell for the same price only $45 and all their lights have 3 year waranty! Now comes the question of leagality of havin a blue or clear 3rd brake light. If someone could please enlighten me as to the laws on that.

Ok I e-mailed the people at spoilerlights.com asking them this:

Hello, I am debating over which LeeGold LG13-35 to buy. I know you sell them in 3 different colors, red, blue and clear. I was wondering if it it just the outside that is a different color and if the led light up red. Also, if they do light up blue, are they street legal? Are they street legal if they light up red but are a different color?

This is the reply i got:
Thank you for contacting spoilerlights.com! Yes, the exterior lens on each of the three different lights come in red, blue, and clear. When the brake light is applied, all of these lights light up red. All of our products conform to U.S. specified DOT specifications and are all street legal. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I think clear or blue would look good with my car's color, its nordic mist. But I'm not sure if they are lieing or telling the turth. I like in Oklahoma if anyone knows the specific laws here. I've had clear sidemarkers with blue lights on my car for a while and do see a lot of cops next to me at night and have had no problems.

clear> blue....blue would be rice, but honestly man, your taillights are mostly red, so a red led brakelight would look best IMO but yeah, clear is most definitely legal cause they are all over the place now

Well I finally installed the light today. I ended up getting the blue one cuz I'm working on doing the interior led mod and i guess i want the spoiler to match the inside, hehe. Well like someone said it is hard to see from high up but it looks pretty good if you look at it. It does light up red when you press the brake. You can't tell whatsoever that the lens is blue. I am pleased with this buy because it was only 50 bucks w/shipping and comes with a 3 year waranty.
