My car is a honda prelude 2000, 4cyl 2.2L base.
I just have noticed that my speedometer is overestimating my speed by almost 10mile/hr. Is there a way to correct it? please give me any idea in order for me to fix it. is it a sensor? what is it? I bought the car used with those conditions.
well the tires on it are the same as the manufacturer of the spec they are : 205/50/16.. the rim are modified but the size are the same.. ( I thought about that though).
When in 5th gear, was does your speed say at 2500 RPMs?

no, my car is automatic (4 gears)... and I know that the speed shown in the speedometer is overpredicted by 10mile/hr or so..
- the tires size is the manufactrer size.
I really don't know what the previous owner did mess up with the car! because it has some mods too.. the suspension is lowered a lot and the tires in the front touch the top of the metalic sheets if i make a turn of 90degrees to another higher road. The car also touches easily the speed bumps. so i have to slow down or even stop on those bumps if i don't destroy the oil pan!
I'm asking here if there is something that we can do to calibrate the speed because if that is wrong probably the odometer is wrong too.... which means if my odometer is at 10,000 miles maybe it is just 9,000miles!
How do you know you're off by 10mph? What test gave you these results and at what speed?

You didn't answer my question either. However, the VSS and the overall wheel/tire diameter are the most common culprits.

hey sorry, i used a GPS to test my speed. Goin 50km/h speedometer reads 60km/h.
I noticed the same issue last summer but to a lesser extent. My speedo said 90km/h but radar had me at 84km/h. All this on stock wheels and tires, ('99 base manual).
The RPMs on my car at 100km/h or 62mph (displayed) is 3100 down from 32-3300 after I installed the type S intake.
I'm just glad the speedo doesn't show a lower speed than what you're actually traveling at. That could cause some unpleasant issues ^_^
