Something every 5g owner should do

A couple of weeks ago my car was broken into by poping the hood. This was dont by pulling on the hood cable throught the grill. Which is something that can be done to most Hondas.

Anyways i re-routed the wire over the hood-lock so that in cant be reached through anyway while the hood is closed. I spent 30 minutes with hangers, wires and other "car stealing" tools trying.

I failed

Here are some pictures of how it comes out. If enough are interested, i will create a guide on how to do it and post it. But this is definately a MUST! Stops that hood-popping error the hondas have. I dont know if it works for 4g or other Hondas, but it does for 5gs.

Awesome! I'd love for you to do a small write-up on this...who knows...maybe you'll get in the FAQ. Thanks though.

They don't get in the car through the hood...they usually open the hood, cut the wire from the battery to the siren. Then they can jimmy the door and get in without a peep from the alarm.

my car was broken into a while back & couldnt figure out exactly how, but once i saw that it COULD be done. it all makes sense... they popped the hood, pulled the battery, then jimmied my window/door. SOB's..... do a write up, im down for a lil rerouting........ & this rerouting didnt mess with the preformance of the hood pop from inside the car at all.

on another note on my previous car that was the only way i could get under the hood.

Did you have to modify the cable? The alternate path you show looks like you shortened the cable.

my alarm installer thought of this before and routed my cables around. he also installed hood trip pins to trigger the alarm and also has 2 sirens - one of which is self powered.

There were no modifications needed to do this, all you have to do is re-run the wire over the hood-lock. Ill do a write up of this over the weekend and hopefully have it up on monday.

And trust me, your hood can be opened throught the grill. Look through your grill and you can see the hood cable, you can almost reach it with your finger. If you had some kind of hook, its a piece of cake.

Thats the way they tried to get in my car. They poped the hood, disconnected the battery but we caught em before they broke in the door.

Ill work on the instructions on how to do it.

Good reason to put your battery in the trunk... but thats quite a bit of work, too much for me. It would leave the crooks scratching their heads though, not to mention that the factory alarm already has a switch for the trunk. And if you have a hood switch, the alarm will sound the entire time they are trying to get into the trunk (unless you have the factory alarm and they cut the horn). Thats my $1.50

Even if the battery is in the trunk you can still cut the wire coming out of the siren itself.

Interesting find.
