Would it help if some of the parts were made of titanium? My pops works at a machine shop that makes titanium parts for the government. He can reproduce anything made of steel. Can anything in the stock Lude 5spd tranny be made more reliable if it were made from titanium? Reply if you are interested and maybe I can work a deal with him to make us some stuff!

Interesting idea. Titanium is a stronger and lighter material than (stainless)steel/iron but unless I've misread the 5spd problems in the FAQ, I don't think there are any problems with the strength or weight of the current pieces in the tranny.

Full titanium engine, chassis, suspension, everything please!!!HAHA that would be cool. The strength of the 5th gen tranny parts isnt to blame for the 5th gear grind or anything, something to do with a badly designed shift fork.

I didnt know if making the forks outa titanium would help.....if you can think of anything else that would be good outa titanium...lemme know...

I could be wrong, but isn't titanium a metal that's really strong as far as heat, bending, and torsional forces go, but then relatively brittle when faced with an impacting force?

I dont think so.....My dad makes titanium casings for Patriot missles and Big ass army jet engines.....the stuff they use is incredibly strong (far stronger than steel in every way). Its a grade far better than automotive (if you can imaging what the gov. expects for missles and aircraft)

try the countershaft and ring gear. Those are things that could be strengthened.

I have little knowledge of our trannies......but (Ill even use my own) If I give hime a part he can make me a match outa titanium....Ill have mine built with that stuff......and test it....even though i have very few problems right now....
