Hey guys, I'm pretty sure I need a new slave cylinder for the clutch system in my SH. I checked out hondaautomotiveparts.com, are those the best prices around? And how long should I expect it to take for the FedEx residential delivery? Majestic Honda is in RI, I'm in NJ.
I search and found a few helpful threads about the slave cylinder...
that first post is mine that i started about replacing the MASTER cylinder not the SLAVE cylinder. i bought my new slave cylinder off of ebay for like $25 plus shipping... as a matter of fact this is the same one that i purchased from the same place. they're a very nice place to do business with, i was quite pleased. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-C...QQcmdZViewItem
definitely not manufactured by honda, but other than not saying honda on it, there's nothing different. it fits just like stock, nothing difficult about the install. hell, for the price you could buy a few of these instead of one honda one. that was my logic. mine has been working fine for months now.
EDIT: just incase your next post was going to ask how to install it, i'll just squash that now. it's too easy... easier than installing your intake. it's a 8mm fitting for the line, remove that, fluid will leak. then take off the two bolts (i think they're 10mm or 12mm). take it out the slave cylinder, put in your new one, screw your two bolts in, tighten your line down and bleed the clutch. should take all of about 20 mins. good luck partner.
yea, it's half the price of the same part through hondaautomotiveparts, which was alot less than what the crazies at the stealership want me to pay for it...

Oh whoops, I never saw this 2nd part of your post
Do I need someone else to help me when bleeding it? And how much does a bleeder go for?
Thanks Pauly, how much DOT3 should I buy?? And how much does a bleeder cost? I got a slave off of eBay for $35ish bucks, I didn't get a master cylinder though
Bleeder kits should be $15 max from pepboys, autozone, etc.. I just got some clear tubing from sears hardware and ran that from the bleeder screw to a plastic cup. But I had Irene to sit in the car and push in the clutch pedal. I tried to keep the hose submerged in fluid and just have her pump the pedal (w/o touching the bleeder) but that didn't seem to work. I had to open the bleeder before she pushed the pedal in. Once it was to the floor she held it there as I tightened the bleeder screw. Then she released the pedal. Lather, rinse, repeat until all the air bubbles are gone.
Oh.... I'd get the taller size of fluid. Rather have left over than run out 1/2 through.

Ray, I could always use a hand, let me know when you'll be free if it works for you... Only problem is that I can't move the car as is. But I'll definitely get you back for gas/toll, and of course some lunch or dinner and beers
ok cool, cause i took about 2 feet, haha... so no need for a bleeder then? do i still have to do the thing where I'm pumping the clutch to get air out? Btw, i dunno if i mentioned it, but my reservoir is empty [as a result of whatever leak i may have, i'm operating under the impression that it is due to the slave cylinder], i dunno if that makes a diff or not...

2 feet is better than 5 inches in my opinion. When I did mine I used about 2 or 3 feet. I don't understand how in the world you would use 5 inches considering there's is no room for a container in the front of the car. 5 inches for the brake calipers maybe, but the slave cylinder??
You don't need a bleeder tool but yes you need to pump the clutch to get the air out. What did you think was going to happen if you didn't do that?? (I'm really confused on your logic here.)
The reservoir is empty and you have not located the leak but suspect the slave cylinder anyway?? Check the system over first. Especially check the rubber line for any cracks that might be the source of your leak first.
I will check my schedule when I get into work on Monday. The next 2 weeks are a bit crazy though.

Honestly, I probably don't really know what I'm doing, so I don't really know what I thought was going to happen with bleeding the system, haha.
Yea, you're right, I'll check the system over, I'll check the rubber lines, and if there's any other key/common areas to check, let me know, I'll check in those areas too. I did notice something on the slave cylinder boot, but I can't say for sure if that was from the clutch system fluid or from something else.
