from what I've heard, the short ram is basically the same as the stock one cept that it sounds better. most people say that it actually loses some power
hey guys i just installed my aem cai and maybe i didnt hook something up that needs to be... when i start my car, while it warms up, the rpms frequently jump from 500-2000.. i dont know what the hell i did wrong ?
sorry....I don't know what to say...cept check over the instructions an see if you missed something.
but your post reminded me of something....does anyone remember a picture of a small rubber hose that looped from one piece to another piece, which was like half an inch away from the previous piece, right next to it? I don't know how to search for that and I didn't know if that was something we should do.....anyone know what I'm talkin bout? please point me to the thread or to the correct answer.

Mine did the same thing. Make sure all of your vaccum lines that you pulled out are either in the proper place and or are plugged w/ a golf tee. The dumbass shop that installed mine didnt do that. I didnt noticed till the next day when i was sitting at a light, and my engine was jumping rpms like it was possesed.
maybe not a gold tee, but i took a piece of the tubing and made it loop back into the throttle body. saw some picture on the site where someone did that and i thought it was very sexy.

I think i might know why your RPMs are jumping.
Look on you intake manifold towards the back. There should be a vaccum line that you removed that went with the stock intake and resonator. If you didnt cap of that little fitting where the vaccum line was then it will definately cause your car to do that. AEM provides a little cap to stick over it but it tends to pop off.

Don't worry man! Rarely, and I mean RARELY do people hydrolock their motors from this. I dont know why you think snow is gonna be worse. I live in Oklahoma, and we can have a sunny day followed by 15" of snow the next. I drove around in snow without a problem (With a CAI). Some of you guys that think that the CAI is gonna kill your car need to loosen up.
i hope u didn't take off the stock grill where it covers up the CAI, if the stock grill is still there.... no rain will get in.... well.. say... 2 feet puddles are a diff story haha

Really, don't worry. I know I sort of clench my teeth and say "okay, here goes my engine" going through puddles on roads, but you really need to submerge almost the entire end of the intake tube before it will suck water into the engine. Sno will just plain not go through the filter, even if you bury the front end of the car in it. Even if half the end of the intake tube is under water, air is going to be much more willing to be pulled into the engine than water. Look at the stock intake tube, it goes down to the level of that shelf on the inside of the fender. A cold air intake maybe goes 3 inches lower than that shelf. I suppose a freak slosh of water could get through the filter and be pulled into the motor, but it's just as likely that you will get hit by lightning while walking to the car in a thunderstorm.
