Shock Knock solution?

I found this while searching for a new suspension:

http://www.replacementautoparts.com/...63-1109_6.html

When doing a suspension replacement, will I still have shockknock if I don't buy something like this? Mine has always been really loud.

FAQ: Write-Up: 5th Gen Shock Knock Fix TSB 00-090

Also, there's another thread somewhere concerning the "knock" isn't actually the shock but the crossbar right behind the rear seat. Many of us have taken to putting some sort of padding behind each bolt. I will try and find the thread.

ive done both the padding of the crossmember and the shortened collars
there was no diffrence after the padding, but once i replaced the collars, the knocks were gone

Thanks for clearing that up, I always thought the bushing was the problem.

Would this be fixed with a new suspension or are these collars not included?

Thanks, I'll order the collars and replace them when I decide on what suspension option to go with!

I'm expecting to upgrade my SH's suspension w/aftermarket items (H&R Sports w/either Koni Yellow's or KYB AGX's) and I just bought new collars from hparts.com. Just in case.

After reading the TSB, I noticed it said sometimes the bushing gets prematurely worn out because of the stock collar. When upgrading the collars, is it necessary to order new bushings? That's another $30 I believe..

I'm so considering taking the TEIN's out next summer, cleaning them up, possibly switching to the SS springs (single spring), using something at the upper mount like GC uses, and replacing the OEM mounts with new ones. I dont know if it'll cure it, but it sure as hell isnt going to make it any worse. I've gone through over 100 sq/ft of dynamat with great results but I still can hear the shock knock enough to annoy me.

I recommend having your car get rearended really hard. This cured my shock knock.

I put up with shock knock for the first 4 months of owning my 2k SH (only from the passenger side). When I installed my spoon strut bars about 2 months ago I decided to tighten the 14mm nut on the top of the strut about 1/4 of a turn. The noise hasn't come back yet.

Well yesterday I replaced all the upper mount bushings and the rear knock has been greatly reduced. The old bushings were severly crushed/compressed compared to the new ones. There's still some noise but it's not as evident or overpowering like it was. Anyone that's having noise issues might want to consider this, my mounts had approx 75-80k on them so they were in there for a while.

Wow this thread just came back from the dead

I might as well put in my update as well:
I ordered the replacement collars and installed them in about 20 minutes. It would have been much faster if the nut on top of the rear shocks didn't require an allen wrench in the middle to keep the shaft from rotating. I also used white lithium grease to lubricate the mounts and everything else before reassembly, that's an important step that is often overlooked.

No shock knock whatsoever! Since then I replaced the springs and struts with newer ones, and everything is still great. My car used to squeek and thump in the back so bad it made me hate to drive it, now it's quieter than a lot of new cars!

^^^ I forgot to mention I lubed everything up and down with Ford suspension assembly lube too. Hopefully that'll keep it quiet.
