Shifting point @ normal driving....

@What RPM you guys up-shift during normal driving? I personally shift around 3.5-4.5k, just want to see where most of you shift?

I might have something to tell after I get the result of this poll...

I normallly shift right before 3000rpm because any higher than that, I hear the engine starting to roar. For some reason, I think maybe because I'm paranoid, the loudness makes me think I'm hurting the engine. But if a civic with an exhaust, 4th to 2nd

I thought like this too...but after getting passed by everyone and their mother in traffic, and almost being rear ended numerous times, I've begun shifting at 3.5-4k

I normally change at about 2000 - 2500.

Driving at low revs, about 1000 - 1500 rpm, can that cause any probs?

i dont know if it will cause any problems but your engine has to work harder if you shift at lower rpms and you try to accel
i usally shift anywhere from 3k-4k

Ok, so it seems my shifting (@3.5 - 4.5K) is not like granny driving. I was afraid that I really was when someone tell me that the driving style I have. Well, maybe it is refer to something else.

I will find out later.

usually between 3-3.5... but im workin with an ss...
also about the low rpm thing. i would assume that it wouldnt be to bad for anything as long as you arent tryin to put a strain on your tranny by tryin to accel at a super low rpm. then i would imagine it would strain yo tranny.

YES. Consider for a moment where the engine produces most of it's power (torque and HP); check out a dyno sheet or just look at the specs (200HP@7000rpm and 156lb-ft@5300rpm). Now if you always drive around 2000 to 2500 is the engine producing much power? No. And it produces even less at 1000 to 1500rpm. So when you accelerate at those low engine speeds you are putting tremendous stress on the oil seals, crankshaft journals, etc. This is not doing the engine a favour and creating excesive heat and wear.
Imagine if someone told you to run a race (a marathon or any other run) bent over and not being able to stretch your legs out on each stride. That's exactly what your asking your engine to do when you lug it at 1000-2500 to try to speed up.

how can you shift at only 1-1.5?! doesn't your car idle in that area? I know that mine idles at like 1250....I don't know what it would idle at with pullies on cuz I haven't put mine on yet (at least I have them ready to go on ) what does your car idle at? I can't see shifting at anything less than 3k....even in auto on an SS, it doesn't shift lower than 3k. I drive my car hard tho, so I'm always shifting higher than that.

If I remember rightly, my car idles at about 1000 RPM. Generally I change gear at about 2500 RPM. But as I said, I can quite easily cruise along in a 30 MPH zone in 5th gear.

As with all Preludes, power is at the high end, so if I want to accelerate quickly, I need to change down a gear or two (usually two).

Get on a bike and go very slow... then put it into 16th gear and see if it starts to strain you
