Shift Knob

I bought a new shift knob for my 97 base prelude and was wondering if I could make the stock boot work with the new knob... the new knob just screws on but there really is know way of connecting the stock boot, could i possibly cut off the silver ring thats on the boot and just attach the leather to the knob somehow. any help would be nice.

Thanks!

I agree, say I buy a new boot, do most knobs work on the boots that have the .. plastic looking ring on the top of them?

I had this issue when I bought a new shift knob. My solution was just to use a good black tap around the shifter and make it just thick enough that the silver square piece can just barely be pulled over it. Then it will always stay up.

If its a universal shift knob there might be a space were a key might go. you can try and use a paper clip or something else thats strong and plyable. it sounds trashy but its worth a try. used it on my buddy mustang and its worked fine ever since.

Here what I did. I bought a Skunk-2 shift knob, drilled out the bottom about one inch to shorten it. I then took off the boot ring, because there is nothing to attach it to. I bought some one inch black rubber corks (in case I messed up some) I drilled out the center of the cork top to bottom to fit down the stick shift, tapered end goes on top. Then using a sharp knife I cut about a 1/8" deep slot all the way around the bottom part of the cork about 1/4" from the bottom to give myself a good groove to attach a tie wrap to hold the boot in place from the underside. You will have to completely remove the boot to be able to tie it from the underside. I've gotten plenty of compliments on it, all you will see is a small part of the top of the black rubber cork, and that blends in with the black boot.
