Shift boot replacement

As usual I looked in a search and couldn't precisely find what I want.

Anyways, I have an ITR shift knob and an ITR shift boot which I wanted to work in conjunction. When I took off the center console I notice the ITR boot wouldn't fit so I took it off its metal frame and took my stock SH boot off of its plastic frame.

The stock boot was held by staples. I put the ITR boot over it and replaced all the staples and replaced my console. Then when I shifted gears I noticed that when in Neutral I got the desired look with the boot slightly below the locking nut. In 1st/3rd/5th it went too high where the top of the boot covered the locking nut. And in 2nd/4th/R it went WAYYY low showing too much of the lever.

I was wondering if I should cut that piece of plastic on the front of the plastic stock frame that is i guess supposed to keep the boot from saging. The boot seems to snag on it when in the gears closer to the back of the car making the boot come down.

Or is there an easier solution to all this?
