Are you swapping in stock Base suspension? They'll fit as long as you swap both springs and shocks. If you're going to use stock Base shocks and springs, yes this swap will degrade handling.

yes thats what i was thinking the reason im thinking of doing this is because i dont have the money right now to buy sh struts and i found a bargain for a set of base springs and struts, it will probaly handle alot better than it does now with the bad ones anyways

Base stuff will work, it's not going to be as good as the SH stuff but it will work pretty darn good. The base model front springs are a little stiffer and ride height will be slightly lower than the SH stuff. But the SH has a softer sway bar so you will still get less understeer than a base model even with base model suspension.

I'm not sure if the Base ride height is any lower. The perches on the front SH shocks are lower on the body to compensate for the slightly longer front springs.

We all know the front springs are slightly lower rate in the SH for better balance, but I think the rear rates are slightly higher also for the same reason. The SH has different part numbers for the springs and dampers, and sway-bars, both front and back.

It's a pity that so many people switch to aftermarket suspension without having experienced the stock setup. Inevitably, most people in forums bought their Prelude with high miles (60k+) and worn shocks. After trying both Koni and Bilstein with Eibach springs, I decided to get new oem SH shocks and use the stock springs. It's the best decision for any street driven Prelude. Very nicely balanced.

thanks for the feedback, that is what happened to me i got good deal on a high km lude, 220 000 km and the shocks are bad, the local honda shop wants $300 a shock for sh and ive found locally a used set of base set up for a fraction of the price of one new one , not leaking and he said in good condition when he took them out for aftermarket suspension. I havnt been able to fully experience the sh shocks because theyre worn the wheel hop is bad.
Have either of you ever swapped them out ? He said he didnt have the top mounts but i could use mine from my sh is that true? and will they're be any other trouble if i do this swap? Thanks.

Majestic Honda has the front's for $113 CAD. And rear's for $105 CAD.

Honda Automotive Parts

Use all the hardware from your current shocks (tophat, bushings, collar, washers) when you install the new ones.

How do you figure it's nicely balanced, it understeers like a pig and the springs are way too soft. Stock prelude with race compound tires will just about lift the front inside tire off the ground. That's not good balance. I'm would assume you know this already but car balance/overall grip is a bell-curve. The balance that yields the most overall grip is neutral and anything on either side of that is less than preferable and will yield less overall grip. It's well balanced for the general driving public who doesn't know what they're doing but thinks they do; overall is way too far to the understeer side of things.

I don't think the SH particularly has a problem with understeer, but that's more because of ATTS than probably the revised suspension.
