Seriously In need of help- Climate Control Dead

Ok I'll make this short and sweet-

I live in Vermont where it's a million below in winter. I love my lude and as of Friday night the climate control has kicked out completely. Convenient now that it is beginning to get cold out....

What is happening is when I select a zone for heat/air the light does not light up and nothing happens. When I turn my lights on for the vehicle the glow turns on for everything but the LED's still won't light up. Adjusting fan speed does nothing either.

So far I have checked all fuses under hood and in the foot well and nothing is blown. I did consider the fan blower but why would that kick out and NO lights come on whatsoever for the entire climate control unit?

I have spent the last two days searching multiple forums for some answers but I am getting nowhere. I do have the Helm's manual but I see nothing in there in regards to a dead climate control system.

For the love of god, please help. I checked all connections and I am getting nowhere. I will be bleeding anally/financially If I have to pay the local Honda dealer to take a look at this.

Thanks again guys,

-Michael - "I'm Freezing My Nuts Off" - D

remove the climate control and check to make sure the cable is not worn out or unplugged or what nots.

Michael

I'm almost certain that your issue is the same as many preludes.

It is a common problem with our cars that the electrical connections on the circuit board of our climate controls becomes loose. Basically the solder points for the pins that the wiring harness plugs into.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, try opening your climate control and simply dabbing each of the connections with the hot iron. Maybe even a touch of new solder, wouldn't hurt (I did that). Just be very careful not to fuse two connections together. If you have a razor blade or something very thin, it would come in handy... place it between the soldering points so that the solder doesn't bleed onto another connection.

Good luck.

I just realize this is the 5th gen forum... I own a 4th gen.

I don't know if you 5th gen'rs experience that problem, however, I honestly don't think it would hurt to try what i mentioned above.

Thank you for taking the time to respond guys, I can't get a single other person on the other boards to help of throw some ideas out there.

I did check the connections and replugged them in, still nothing.
Didn't get the chance to check with a test light the blower motor connection yet to see if that's even getting power.

I did read about the gen4 issues and re-soldering the connections, but nothing on the 5th gen so I didn't try that yet. Any suggestions on removing the metal cable to pull the unit out? That is the one thing I'm snagged on at the moment. Once that is clear I will pull the unit and check those solder points (Handy with an iron :-) )

Thanks again guys, seriously. It's next to impossible to find a prelude guy up north so I'm going off what help I can find here. I will update the thread as soon as I check both the line and solder points.

ANY other suggestions? Anything at all?

Thanks!
-Michael

I don't have any other suggestions...

But, as far as the metal cable. The cable is held in by a small retainer clip. Unscrew the retainer clip, remove it, and then remove the metal cable. My memory is not clear, but there might be a second retainer clip that you have to take out.

I remember in my 4th gen I had to lie on my back with a spotlight and do it from there.

Before I performed this fix on my car, my problem was similar to yours. Except it would only happen with the AC button. I'd press the AC button and the light wouldn't turn on (the 'on' indicator light, the headlight/illumination light worked), and my AC would not turn on. Actually, one thing that I would do before I did the fix was just bang my hand on top of the dash! I know, very caveman-like troubleshooting, but it helped. Try it. If that works, you'll know it's the same problem.
