It runs fine, but very hard to start.......

Hi, Hoping you guys can help me out......
First of all the basics of my setup as follows

H22 with stock internals
Treadstone turbo kit (turbonetics t3/t4)
RC 550 saturated injectors
AEM EMS.

(have been running this setup for over 6 months)

The problem started a few days ago. I was on my way back home from my tuner after having a GM boost solenoid fitted and had the boost/fuel/ignition trimed etc. Everything was going fine untill the car started to miss fire with boost. It got worse over a few miles and eventually it wouldn't even run so i pulled over and called the breakdown service. Pulled a plug and it had a weak spark. me and breakdown guy guessed it was the ignition coil. Today i fitted a new coil. It struggled to start but when it did it ran fine. Went for test drive and it pulled hard & smooth, didn't miss a beat! Got home and let it cool down for a few minutes. Went to start it again and the same problem occured. It just didn't want to fire up. It seems to fire on 1 or 2 cylinders and the motor judders then just dies, and theres a strong smell of petrol.

So, i pulled the plugs and they where all black sooted up. I burnt the carbon off them (blow torch) and re-fitted them. Got the car started went for long test drive came home and still it would take a minute or 2 to get it re started. It deposits lots of soot on the drive way and my rear bumper when i try to start it.....

I'm thinking either,

It could be a relay, or maybe crank position sensor, or maybe the ignition module?

Any ideas.....?

Do you have the AEM EMS set to +25% enrichment fuel when cranking? Also, what injector size are you running? if it is too big (550cc+), you will have to LOWER the enrichment fuel while cranking a bit.

Sounds more like a tuning issue, either poor low-rpm fuel/ignition maps, or too high of a setting for enrichment fuel while cranking.

V/r,
Mike

Thanks for replying..

Although i did mess around with the enrichment wich didn't improve things, I don't think its down to the tuning. The car has always started fine with my tune and it started fine when i left the tuner before it broke down. It would be a bit of a coinceidence that i replace the coil and it cures the actual running problem if it was down to the tuning......
