Rota Slipstream 16x7" black rims or Spoon?

I was just wondering about how in the long run it might be a better idea to buy Spoon's 16x7" rims which are forged aluminum as opposed to the aluminum casting of Rota's Spoon-like black Slipstreams.

The real catch is obvious as we're talking $500 rims vs. $1900 rims, but since the stock Prelude rims are thick, cast units and Rota's are thinner cast rims, isn't there a greater possibility that the Rotas will develop cracks?

I'd rather gain a strength than waste $500 bucks. And we're talking functionality before looks here. No doubt both rims look great! :)

I'm getting the rotas. How much stronger can they be? Everybody with the slipstreams seems happy. I had the same problem but you can get almost four complete sets of Rotas for the price of one set of Spoons. I heard that Spoon wheels are just a rebadge anyway.

I think the Spoon's are rebadged Regamaster's, if not blame this board If the Rota's were heavy, I'd skip them but they are really light, especially for the price. If you have the cash, get the Spoon for the name but I can't afford that much for 16" wheels.

hey, not saying rotas are the best...but the other day on the freeway doing about 70 i ran over a HUGE pothole. thought surely my slipstreams would be f***ed-up but damn they lasted. just sharing my experience.

Rotas are actually good quality. I've had mine for a year now with no problems or imperfections. I'd say I got my $500 worth

Considering how many people out there have ROTAS and I myself have not heard one complain, I think that should tell you that the quality is actually pretty decent.

$500 vs 1900$ is lot of cake to spend on for plain black wheels if you ask me.

I'd go ROTA's for sure and use the left over money on some performance upgrades or better tires. Just my 2 cents.

aren't SPOON forged magnesium?

Since we are on the topic of Rota's...

I can run my stock tires with the 16" Slipstreams correct? I don't need to get a wider tire because of the gain of .5" in the rota diameter, right?

Thanks guys! That answers everything for me.

Thidthad,

I believe you are correct. The .5" difference should not affect it that badly and at least one member here that I have talked to says he is running the stock tires sizing with no problems.

And they look good to boot.

I would, however, advise purchasing a better set of summer tires at this point unless your stock Potenzas are relatively new.

Mine are finally getting worn and I can't wait to buy better rubber.

this is all i have to say about rota's. when my freind asked a kid who has a jdm front end conversion type r with all the jdm goodies you could think of if he would have bought the rota's instead of the spoons had they been out at the same time he said and i quote "are you crazy, hell yeah i would have got them"

they are very cheap, not as light as spoons but very light, look identical, and are very strong and thats from expreience since i have macked plenty of lunar sized holes with them. buy them and save money for some go fast parts.... you wont be dissapointed. and yes im using the stock potenza's that suck with them and yes they fit good and look good.

I have the Spoons

I also had Regamasters before that

But I will say that the Spoons are stronger than the Rota's, but hell I don't think that I will hit a pothole big enough to make the Rota break/crack, yet hit one with the Spoons.

Anyway....I guess to be different I would say go with the Spoon

Get the Rotas... IMO over $1500 for wheels w/ tires is a waste...

I think it will fit but will barely clear the front calipers. My friend has an ITR and has the 15 inch slipstreams and it bearly clears the front. Now I'm guessing that we have the same calipers it might be the same.
