Right Headlight Bulb keeps going out!

hey all luders...search a couple times but came up pretty much unsuccessful. anyway here's the problem, my right headlight keeps burning bulbs real quick, even my stockies. i've probably gone through 3 bulbs (2 stock bulbs, and one catz h1) where my left headlight bulb is still working strong. any ideas to what the problem could be? thanks

Dan

Can anyone tell me exactly why everyone says not to touch the bulb with your hand?

^^^ you don't want the natural oils from your hands/fingers to get on the bulb. The bulbs get pretty hot and oil on the bulb can heat up and cause the bulb to shatter/explode.

Do or do not . . . there is no try.

Seriously, though - wear some clean gloves or something. You can't touch it at all.

I had the same problem with silverstar h1ST lights, only one side and had to replace twice. I went back to stock and don't have the problem. silverstars are too expensive to replace every month.

I'm having the same problem running aftermarket superwhite bulbs. I've been using the same brand in my JDM fogs and headlights for about a year and only the passenger side burns out. 3 times in the last 3 months.

I use the Phillips Blue Vision bulbs instead cause they last longer than Hyperwhite IMHO.

get some di-electric grease while you're at it...can be bought at pepboys or kragen etc...it protects the socket and the plug on the bulb

I've got a question about that. I've been seeing all these people in krappy A** cars with these cool lookin bright blue lights, and I know they're not putting HID's in KIA's and Saturns. Anyone know what these are?

cool aye? you just may be a potential ricer..haha jk you can buy hyper white or blue lights at any car shop. they pretty much sell them everywhere now after fast and the furious. they are just standard light bulbs that have different wattage or whatever to make the bright blue or whiter.

but anyway, i still haven't resolved my problem and my headlight has been out for like 2 months. oh well i haven't been pulled over yet so whatever. ill have to try that di-electric grease and see how that goes. thanks

Since you tried 2 OEM lamps there may actually be an issue.
The bulb holder really isn't a likely failure point. It should have burn marks if so.
Are the headlamp mounts intact? If the top was has broken like many do, that headlight could be vibrating excessively. Just give the whole assembly a wiggle.
That last easy thing to check is the vent holes. Make sure they aren't plugged up. They should be part of the rubber boot.

Aftermarket ones are cr@p. That's why I did a projector retrofit. Worth every penny I wasted on those "brighter halogens."

Switch the bulb holder on the one that keeps going out with one on the other side, and see what happens.

And you never definitively said whether you touched the bulbs or not . . . . that's important. I went through a couple at one point before I learned my lesson as to how anal you have to be about it.
