replacing ss lude with a 5spd, any 5spd specific problems i should be aware of?

so i decided to get rid of my ss lude,, and ive looked through all sorts of other cars..., came back to the prelude... cuz i just love how it looks.. and it d be cheaper than say an 03 spec v which after much research ive found has some serious engine problems.. but as for the 5spd lude.. any transmission issues with it??

no problems with the manual trans only auto is buggy, however if you get an sh model i believe there's some sort of recall (on atts units maybe?) but thats covered by the dealer

There would be no reason to attempt to put an SH tranny into a base model Lude. So make sure you get a base model tranny. Due to cost, it's typically more economical to sell the chik car and just buy one that already has a man's transmission in it.

Well then, do it. You won't see anyone suggest against it except for maybe a few of us SH owners saying, you'll get better handling with our model.

and u guys im about to replace my tranny with a 97 tranny, and i heard a lot of bad things about the 97-98 trannies.. , btu this one according to the seller had only 30 k.. , if im lucky enough that its actually good.. what can i do to prevent it from failing.. tranny cooler?? anything? anyone..

Make sure you shift properly and do all scheduled maintenance.

While the trannys out you might wanna check the 5th gear/reverse syncro for the "mushroom" effect. You gotta pull it off to see though cause its on the underside when you have the tranny case off. This relates to the 5th gear grind because if the tranny you get HAS the 5th gear grind, then you might as well replace that syncro set.

When I did my swap I didnt check for "mushrooming" on the reverse side of the syncro, and after about a month of 5th gear grinding, i could no longer put it into reverse. It wasnt fun having to pull the tranny back out.

Some nice fellow has a write up on this...maybe in the faq section.
