Replacing gaskets to fix a long time oil leak issue
Hey there I just wanted to run down my plan to replace some parts and go about reducing the amount of oil that my lude leaks and is probably slowly destroying my engine bay.
I just ordered a aftermarket cam seal and i'm about to order the rest of the OEM parts from majestic Honda but I just wanted to review it with some extra eyes and have some of your opinions what i'm getting and if you think there is anything else that would not hurt to pick up while i'm ordering from them.
15825-P13-005 FILTER ASSY., SPOOL VALVE -- This is the VTEC Solenoid Gasket
91316-PE7-730 O-RING (62.4X3.1) --Oil Cooler O-Ring The gasket on the oil cooler connected to the oil filter, has been replaced but just buying another to keep around.
12342-PT2-000 GASKET B, HEAD COVER -- Spark plug gaskets
So I plan on removing the head and adjusting my valves then replacing the cam seal and the distributor o-ring and pop in new spark plug gaskets. Then replace the head cover gasket and put the new vtec Solenoid gasket in.
What else can I do to prevent my horribly leaky car out, I'm staying away from the main seals since they are a pain. And does anyone think it is hard to remove the spark plug gaskets or if its worth it?

All of those seals are pretty easy to replace and wont take long to do, just make sure to run by the auto parts store and get some permatex ultra gray (hondabond equivalent). You'll need it to use on the corners of the VC gasket where the cam humps are.
If you got leaks coming from behind the timing covers you should change the t-belt, water pump and all 5 seals behind the t-belt, oil on the t-belt ruins it.

When I was looking at the prices on most sites it was like 20 bucks more for the "Kit" with the vc grommets. I think i might just buy a off brand kit for less.

Ok, So should I take a look at the belt to see if there is any residue or oil on it before I do any of this other work? So if I do need to replace the belt/water pump I can do it all at once withe everything else.
The "Kit" is the Valve Cover Gasket AND Grommets in a pack. Your buying them separately, the Kit shold save you a few $$. I would advise DO NOT get Aftermarket Seals, Grommets, Gaskets or O-Rings. OEM is not really THAT much more $$ and you will be kicking yourself when the aftermarket one fails or doesn't fit right and you have to re-do the job again.

I can pick up the kit for 15 bucks aftermarket or 38 bucks for the OEM Honda one. Are there really that big of problems with non Honda gaskets?

Not all of them..but it's a crap shoot. I put a brand new AM Valve Cover gasket on and it leaked like a sieve. Took it back for a refund and got an OEM..only needed a little Hondabond (Permatex Ultra) on the cam lobes and it was tight & rite.
It's up to you...I got AM and ended up doing twice the work..if I went OEM it would have been right the first time.
Just be sure to stay away from Autozone/Advance auto brand...that stuff is crap...you get what you pay for.

Yea I used to work at a parts store and I know all too well how much they suck. Your right i'm just going to do it right the first time.
Just found a 10 bucks off coupon too so even though they charge a bit more for the parts then majestic overall it will save me like 4 bucks.

its weird after you do it, and you don't see spots all over your driveway.... i'm still getting used to a sealed up car.
You'd love mine then, working at the dealer when not having anything to do I resealed the entire motor since I didn't do anything but the t-belt stuff and rear main before swapping. Engine is bone dry and was hosed down with brake clean after it all.

i was gushing oil out of something behind the timing cover, the rear main seal, and the oil pan gasket was missing.
re-did timing belt with all seals, put the oil pan gasket in, changed the oil cooler gasket, changed rear main seal, and even added those 3 bolts to the transmission that were missing, the ac fan that was missing, and replaced both of the broken axles. didn't really get cleaned after, but its nice and dry.
now my piece of plywood can go under the jeep to catch its oil/differential leaks.
