I've only got 12k on my 01 5g. The dealer told me never to use the red key in the ignition and that only a Honda mechanic/electrician should use the key.
Is this key to be used to insert into the slot on the dial gauges when maintenance has been preformed on the car?
I suppose that I could call the dealership, but I know I'll get the straight goods from the "board".

Thanks guys/girls.
you can use anything to poke that slot on the gauge to reset the maintenance indicator.
well if you're a moron like me and happen to accidentally lock both sets of your keys in the car, and lose thte valet key, you can use that red key in the doors to get in. BUT DO NOT USE IN THE IGNITION!!!
interesting I put that key in my ignition a couple of times by mistake, and it took a few turns of the real key to get it started. I've accidently done this a few times, but I have no problems.
How do you use it accidentally,. . it's bright red. . and it's used to program new keys to the imobilizer system. So the car recognizes the "chip" in the key.

bottom line is don't mess around with the red key...you don't need a key anyway to poke that maintenance reset on your dash...any sharp object will do but not too sharp that'll scratch it.
You guys actually got the red key? The day when I picked up my 2001 lude (brand new) I inquired about the red key. They say we don't give the red key to the customers anymore because there have been so many cases where customers acidentally use it in the ignition. THe dude said it was no big deal not having it cause if I ever needed to make a dupe, I just have to go to a dealer and they can make one with no problem. Am I in deep sh1t cause I didn't get my red key?

naw, your probably okay as long as that dealership doesn't go under or relocate to some galaxy far far away. If I were you, and I'm not, I would call up the dealership and tell them that you would feel more comfortable with the key in your possecion. If they give you a hard time, tell them to GIVE ME THE FUGGN RED KEY BEFORE I DRIVE AWAY WITH A RED S2000!!!
but seriously, I'd go and get your key. you paid for it.
Hehe I'm still wondering how anyone actually put the red key in the ignition, even by mistake , from my understanding its used for maintenance and shuts off all the electrical systems in the car for the mechanic to do some work with
This is funny. OK I don't post much but damn. Ok red key is used to program a NEW key to YOUR car. If you insert the RED key into the ignition it WILL blank the chip code for ALL your keys.It is basically a RESET button for the computer chip for your car keys. They give you this RED key so if you ever need or lose your keys they can reprogram a new key for you. It's not used for matinence of anything other then reprogramming keys.

*ding ding ding* you win a prize for knowing how the red key works ha ha ha...the dealer told me to never used that read key so kept it at home in the box it came with not going to touch it
How do you, "accidently" put in the red key? I'll tell you when I got the car, I bought it used, and the dealer never said anything about not using it. I had both keys on one ring, and when it was dark I "accidently" stuck the wrong one in the ignition. People make mistakes as I did, but I suffered no problems because of it. Just had to stick the right key in and turn it over a few times.
Dude, I would get that red key from them. That red key belongs to you, not them. It comes with the car. They have no right to keep it.

What is interesting is that my 98 accord also has an immobilizer, and did NOT come with the Red key, and the dealer doesn't have it either...go figure!
