Hi everyone. My name is Daniel....I've been a member for a little white now, although this would make my first post on PO. I've basically been trying to soak up every bit of info about the 5th gen as I can. After getting some decent grades, and driving around my grandma's Buik Skylark for a year or so I've finally gotten a great car (to say the least heh).
A few months ago I had my eyes set on a VR-4, but looking around I found it was almost impossible to find one in decent shape (for sale, anyways) with relatively low milage on it.
After driving a base auto '99 3000GT (all we could find), I nearly puked. It was slower than the Buik I had been driving (very pretty car though). They were asking for 19 grand. Thanks but no thanks. Anyhow, a little later I went for a drive in the salesman's JSRC'd prelude. Well damn. It was fast, it was a great car (Honda - I need something to last), and had good safety. They had one for sale, but they were also asking around 18K. No way.
A few weeks later we found one at a Honda dealership in houston. Year 2000 Prelude Type SH with 35000 miles. They wanted 19,800 (sticker price, of course) but we managed to get it down it 14,600. It's Milano Red, and had a few nice mods on it (which I probably would have added anyway). DC Sport Ceramic 4-2-1 headers (not the greatest, but still better than stock none the less), a full 2.5" exhaust pipe (with cats, thank god) and a Tanabe Hyperion Power G exhaust (very sweet sound, low and deep). It has the Indiglo guages and other small touches such as red lights on the inside doors, clear side markers, and the parking lights were replaced with small red bulbs (they look like eyes at night...pretty clean). Shaved except for the H emblem. It has a "Skunkworks" sticker in the engine bay, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what is in there that is made by skunkworks? Anyone have any ideas? It could be the springs or coilovers? I'm not quite sure yet. Trying to contact the previous owner. Also has a tint all the way around. Stock SH rims with Potenza 92's (stock as well I think, although the front ones are new).
[edit2]
Forgot to mention it's a 5-Speed Manual. First time I learned (at age 11 none the less, lol) to drive was on a stick shift 4 Speed 1972 VW Beetle (I had to learn manual before auto, per the father). That thing was the shi*. You had to put it in 1st to climb a hill and rev like hell to take off on an incline without smashing the guy behind you).

nice
I have a 2000 SH..took me 3 months to find one
as for the "SkunkWorks" sticker...I think thats for Skunk2 Racing
your lude might have some cams in there
2 ways to tell is to pull the valve cover or put it on the dyno and see what she puts down

Well thats the thing. Everyone who's seen it say it looks low for a lude (*shrug* how many ludes are actually cruising around here?). It's got a "Skunkworks" sticker above the firewall, and I'm not quite sure what's done to the suspension. What should be the stock distance from the bottom of the front lip to the ground?
Also, if anyone can point out any other mods I may have missed (lip kits? are the side skirts stock?) that'd be really cool.

That also crossed my mind. VTEC feels very pronounced, but I dont have much to compare it to. I'm going to take it to the dyno in a few weeks when I get a VAFC2. Runs somewhat rich from what I can tell (bogs at low RPM at WOT some), fuel-ish smell at idle. Also going to do a K&N filter.
Originally posted by B0b yea that car is hot. and the red calipers are definately sexy. I didn't know a dealer could sell a car without a cat.
Oh yeah, also forgot to mention that it has red-painted calipers, and is a 5-Speed Manual (took forever to find a good one in manual).
About the cat, believe me, this dealer would have. They tried to rob us at 19.8k (I guess they all do though right?), but the thing was, they had NOT run an inspection on it since the exhaust system had been installed. "Yeah it looks like the cats are there, should pass just fine". So we made them sign something that says if it does not pass, they'll buy it back or fix it to where it will pass. We got them to do an inspection on it a week later, and it did in fact pass.
Originally posted by Keith Skunkworks was the name of Skunk2 before they changed it. They make coilovers, strut bar, cams and cam gears for the Prelude.
Thanks man. Looks like i'll be poking around to check things out. I know it isn't a strut bar. Coilovers, im not sure....would I be able to tell by looking under the car/weel well? (i.e. are they a different color, or something that would stand out). As far as cam gears....who would open up the engine just for the gears? If it's the gears I'd assume they put the cams in with it. We'll see I guess.
Ah, didn't know that. Thanks. But yeah, most of the ludes (bases) were auto that I found. This one just happened to be an SH, wasn't looking for one exclusively.
looks nice.. I couldnt decide on caliper color on my 99 milano red but I think I'll paint em red now . You've also convinced me to tint my windows haha
I see you already made a nice sig with your car in it
Anyways, congrats on getting a lude! Looks real clean.
It sure feels great when you've been wanting one for a long time doesn't it?
