Are you familiar with these new sites called ebay and craigslist?
No. Please explain them to me. Don't spare any of the details.
My point is that there are dozens of head units with the same features as that one that are readily available from more reputable sources. I don't see anything about that unit in particular that makes it anything special.

You don't have to buy an adapter trim piece to fit an aftermarket radio in a prelude, the stock radio is already a standard single din size. Aftermarket radios fit right in the stock location.
Yes it is the free kit they give you, but it actually is pretty good quality (its actually the same thing you would have to buy yourself, if you bought it somewhere else, just crutchfield gives it away for free).
did you bypass that feedback system crap in the back when you installled the head unit??

If you think so, post one or two in the same price range that have ALL the same features AND is not hideous.

The only feature on that stereo that's not standard on almost all new aftermarket headunits for sale today is the ipod control, but all four pages of these: Car Stereo HU's also have ipod controls built in as well.
Of the cheap radios, these have the most similar feature set to the Sony you posted without going with some crap brand like dual or jvc:
The Kenwoods both require a front USB cord (ugly) and neither charge the iPod while in use.
The Clarion has a rear USB port which would be difficult to access so you'd have to leave a cord plugged into it. The face of the Clarion is hideous and the display doesn't show enough text. The Clarion will however charge the iPod while in use.
Valiant effort though. I'll give you a B+.

Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the KDC-348U.
iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the headunit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone.
And you can't b!tch about the input being on the back AND on the front. Where the hell do you want them to put it?
The Sony comes with a permanently attached direct-connect cable that is 3-4 feet long and comes from the back of the stereo. Mine runs behind the dash and into the back of the glove box for a perfect stealth look.
Inserting a USB cord into a USB port in the front = lame.
Inserting a USB cord into a USB port in the back = tricky & lame.
Not sure how I missed that one of the Kenwoods charges the iPod.

They both do. So do almost all of the other HU that have ipod controls built in.
So at this point, the only feature separating the discontinued stereo you linked from the newer models is a less than $5 USB extension cable, no? Well that, and all the features on the newer units that are not on the old Sony...
Newer features? Like what? The display is still a problem.

As far as speakers go I went all Polk Audio speakers with the DB691 6x9's in the rear and Polk Audio DB6501 6.5 components in the doors. Both pair cost me 200.00 between Amazon & BB's clearance dept. Boom Mat baffles on the 6x9's and Boom Mat in the trunk under the carpet to deaden the sound. I also added Dynamat to the doors. Very quiet now lets my music come through.
For low cost head unit options try the Kenwood Exceleon KDC-X395 (139.99) or the Alpine CDA-105 (149.99). I wouldn't use Sony or some other cheapo brand like Dual. Your head unit is critical to your sound and there are some really good one's out now for 200.00 or less. Stick with Brands like Alpine, Kenwood & Clarion you won't be sorry.
I went with a Kenwood Exceleon with Built in Bluetooth because that was really important for me. I also liked that the factory unit pushed a few more watts RMS than the Alpines and it came with a 2 yr warranty. My next and final step will be to add the Rockford Fosgate Prime 4 channel 300 watt amp. Then I will be done and my entire system will be complete and under 600.00 for equipment (not including installation costs which most people would do themselves anyway).
