Rear suspension rattle...

Hey... I know this topic has been beaten to death. But tomorrow I will be taking my car again to the dealer for the "shock knock" problem or rear rattle.. Whatever you call it... What has the dealer done for you to try to fix this problem?

I had the same problem. I hear loud knocking sounds. I took it to the dealer and they found a really long wrench extension that feel into a creek in the trunk. After that, no more sounds.

They had a recall on the springs a year ago or so. They did that for me, but the noise still remained. I remember I talked to a guy that was lucky enough to have a cool dealer let him get aftermarket stuff to swap in. But I highly doubt mine will do that for me. Anyone else have any experience with their dealer and this problem?

Do a search under 'shock knock'. You will find all the answers there.

Do you hear the "clunk" when going over speedbumps? I recently (2 months ago) got a Thermal catback exhaust installed and ever since then i hear a "rattling" or some may call it a "clunk" in the rear of the car by the muffler. It only happens when going over speedbumps and left turns(not right). I think its just my exhaust rattling but ive already taken it in to get it adjusted. It helped a little but it still makes a rattling.... My question is: Is the rattling im hearing still the exhaust or something with the suspension?

I just picked up my car from the dealer lot after hours... And they did that service bulletin work on it. And its pretty much gone!!! I can hear just a little rattle over some of the larger bumps, but nothing compared to what it was before.
The funny thing about it is that I had my car in there a year ago for this problem. For some reason they replaced the rear springs then and thought it would fix it. But when I went to take it back in, the weather warmed up drastically causing the noise to go away. So they pretty much thought I was on crack for that one. But that bulletin is dated Nov 2000. Wonder why they didnt have that on file then.

But then again the people at the dealer were idiots back then... But I'm just glad they got a good group of people there now. After almost three years I finally have a quiet Prelude in the winter months... It feels good...
