honda jacked up my 97 sh and saw that i have a leak in the rear main seal. this would explain why my clutch pedal feels rough while shifting. they quoted me total of $1752 which included suggested changing of the clutch ($125), throw out bearing ($60), pressure plate ($161), and trans. fluid ($20). labor i think they put at $17/h total est. 120 hours. does this sound right guys? any suggestions?
thanks

I have a problem with leaking oil and it just started as far as I know. It doesn't leak much maybe a half dollar size puddle after I drive it. I change my oil every 2000-2500 miles so I never get real low any way. I was told it is coming from the main seal I don't know if it is rear or not. And it could possibly be coming from the valves. Wondering what I should do. I am also thinking about getting a new clutch and everything with but I am wondering if I should go ahead and get a better flywheel (lighter and stronger) in the process.
I have a 97 base prelude with 160,000 miles The car runs perfect and I want to keep it that way.
What exactly did Honda do to cause this problem? A leaky rear main wouldn't explain a rough clutch pedal feel. It would explain a slipping clutch, but you're not complaining about that.
I would expect that the labor quote was $120 an hour for 17 hours total job time.
I can do the work for you, and I will be significantly cheaper (and better!). You'll have to bring the car up to the Dallas area though. It would take me a full day or a Friday night & Saturday to replace the rear main since the transmission has to come out. If you're interested, PM me, and we'll work out a quote.

yeah they saw the leak after they put it onto the lift. they didn't cause it. they said oil getting on the clutch parts can cause it to feel weird. but i've also been told by fellow luders that it coculd possibly be my throw out bearing... getting it into gear doesn't seem to be a big problem though on colder days it's sligtly harder and the clutch pedal feels rougher. honda have somewhat of a warranty on their service but you know i've never felt completely saticefied with any work they do. i feel jipped. it's like pulling nails to get thinngs done correctly. i'm going to eventually have it done, but now i have to decide what to upgrade to if at all. i don't really speed around but only when necessary. thanks the help guys.
