rattling noise :(

Hey people

So I've come across an issue on where my engine would make a rattling noise AFTER I release the throttle. I won't hear it when the engine is cold, but after its warmed up, I would raise the RPM a bit over 3k, release, and I would hear it rattle quite loudly. At first I thought I was low on oil and figured I was beginning to run dry, I checked the dipstick and it was still within standards (phew). I took a look around the engine bay to see if anything was loose, however, found nothing. Anyone come across this issue before?

It could be your timing belt auto-tensioner. There are sound clips on youtube, look it up and compare.

Maybe the header heat shield, or an exhaust heatshield somewhere on the underside of your car? Releasing your throttle at 3k can cause some vibration with the sudden movement of your drivetrain so something that's loose like that could definitely be the issue.

I have this issue with my 99 base lude. Between 1000 and 2000 rpms it will rattle when i press the gas with a decent amount of force. It could be something in your exhaust that you think is coming from your engine.
The only weird thing about mine is that it only does it when its moving. It wont do it when the car is not in gear. I was recently getting a transmission fluid drain and refill at my Honda dealership and they heard the sound and they said that they checked all the heat shields and said they were tight. So im basically in the same spot you are in. But hopefully this helps. Im starting to think its part of my exhaust coming apart internally.
Let me know if you figure this out.

mine does this at 2800 rpm, there and then only. I believe its a ehatshield , cause why would a car only make a noise when in gear? and if the tranny was fked, prolly make the noise in neautral too.

I think it may be my catalytic convertor. Last time i had it in the shop they lifted it up and checked all the heat shields and they were all tight. They also beat on them with a hammer to make sure there wasnt a rock inside. So i just hit the catalytic convertor with my hand a little bit and i heard a slight rattle. So i think this is it. But i wont know unless i have it replaced

Ok, so I took my car down to the shop and the tech says that its my timing belt. I kinda suspected it so. The timing belt was slowly slipping off the gears thus creating a rattling noise. After changing out the belt, the noise went away and drove normally.

also u might want to check your alternator because when the bearings in the alternator start or are gone it does that just start the car get a small pipe of some sort and place one end to your ear and the other to the altenrator and if you can hear it better that way you just may need to change your alternator.

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago and thats what my problem was
