question about removing the balancer belt

I am having the manual tensioner swap done soon and was thinking about removing the balancer belt. Do I have to make the spacer and block the holes or can i just tell them not to put the belt back on? If i need a spacer could i just use some alu. tubing with the right inner diameter (match the bolt) and cut it to fit or even use washers? I have read that it is suposed to be fine to remove this (it is there just for comfort) if anyine has any reason not to I would like to hear why.

If you don't mind leaving the shafts in the block (~8 lbs.), you can just leave the belt off & not bother putting on the tensioning arm & spring. Reusing the H22 balancer pulley works fine when you space it away from the manual tensioner pulley with enough washers.

Run a search or two, you should be able to find quite a few conversations on the topic.

If you just remove the belt (easiest solution) you should also remove the balancer spring, or lock the adjuster in the tensioned position. Not doing so might allow the spring to come loose which could really jack up stuff. If you have access to a lathe you can fabricate a spacer to take the place of the balancer adjuster and remove it altogether.

Removal of the shafts completely is QUITE involved and requires removing the engine from the car.

Try doing a search. The manual tensioner swap has been covered a billion times. Search for posts by me if you want to find which parts on the "traditional" lists you find that you DON'T actually need.

it appears 10 and 13 can be reused from the H22...

you must use some washers as spacers between the timming belt tensioner pulley and the balancer belt tensioner pulley or else they will rubb together.

My main question is this part here:

20. 14521-P14-A00 - PLATE, ADJUSTER (not pictured) 7.42

I've seen a few online write ups, and have been studying the pictures, i can't figure out why this part is needed....

It's used to lock the tension on the timing belt while simultaneously adjusting tension on the balancer belt. If you're not running a balancer, you don't need it.

You need to verify that the part numbers are the same before you reuse parts. I've never seen a problem with the two belts rubbing together if you're using the right parts.

That plate adjuster allows you to lock the manual tensioner in place when you're doing a timing belt job.
