This auto mechanic guy that my dad trusts a lot says that I should just go there and find a beat up prelude but with a nice engine cuz he can get me body parts that I want cheap or maybe even for free.
What's up with the Prelude taking corners. I've read some threads that say that Preludes are horrible at taking corners even if you put money in the suspension. Am I investing my money in the right car?
WHAT??? The Prelude's are ASUME cars for the twisties!!!! Even in stock form. Then if you change out the suspension look out!!
I think that you might want to find a new source of info cause who ever told you that the Prelude is no good in the Corners noes not know what they are talking about. They are a very capable car!!
ok but i only gots 20 grand to waste on a car right now, what should i start on first? Cuz I'm looking to get a 97-01 prelude for are 10-15 grand and 5 grand to waste on a little mods. What should I do first? Suspension? Body? Turbo? lol Oh and what type Prelude should I get? VTECH, SH, Base? I'm so confused.
Well What are you looking for? A car that will work very good at Autocross or a Drag strip car? It seems like you have not driven a Prelude Yet? I recomend driving it first? To see if you like the Power and the Corning, to see what you want to Modify first.
Forced Induction (Turbo/super charger) can really be a pain in the @$$ if you don't tune it perfect and it will cut the life of the motor way down. Will this be your daily driver?
Body kits are nice but i would rather go faster.
Well if you are in the States then there only 2 choices in Ludes. There is the Sh Package which is the ATTS system, (Active Torque Transfer System) And the base lude. The base is Easer to Boost and lower, it resondes better to these mods cause the the ATTS system is very pickey.
And all of the 97-01 ludes come with the H22 engine which is DOHC VTEC.
lol, i'm only 16 and this is gonna be my first project car so I don't really know what the hell i'm doing. I need help. lol but yeah this will prolly be my daily driver and i mean i wana go for go but i want to look nice doing it. but i'm scared that people will jack my **** at school lol.
Well since your only 16 this will be a handfull. Have you ever drove any kind of "sports" style car?
Well since it will be your first project car, i would recomend that you go with the Suspension first. You will really notice a HUGE difference. Then bolt on parts (such as headers, intakes and such) That way it will be much harder to screw something up in these very complicated cars. Forced induction is not a good place to start with someone new to the game and so young (no flame intended)
Do your homework and read as much as you can. The Prelude is a Fast car right out of the Box and it corners very well also.
The Lude is a very nice looking car and if you don't want your car tammpered with keep it simple. Focus your time on the stuff that you don't see such as stuff under the hood and make it faster, handle better.
There is no way to prevent people screwing with your car But that is why we pay the crazy insurance rates.
Will you be doing the work or do you plan on taking it to shops to do the work for you?
I'm planning to "try" and do the work myself so I can know my car and understand it but if I get into some problems I'll be taking it straight to the shop. So I have an idea of what I want to get. Since you said the Base is easier to boost and lower I think I'll be going with that. Also, I don't know how to drive stick but I don't like the traffic in Houston at all and I don't wana deal with all the tranny problems and what not. But I don't wana be left in the dust with an automatic. What to do What to do???
Just learn how to drive stick. I drive through an hour of traffic every morning on I-10 just to get to UH. It's not THAT bad. What do you mean by a "beat up" Prelude? For 10-15Gs, you should be able to find a fairly nice used Prelude from either a dealer or private seller.
Well You WILL need to get the Helm's for the car (the Techinations (sp) manual) you can get that at any Honda dealer or at www.helmsinc.com
Good for you for getting into a very fun and fustrating hobby!!
I really recomend the 5spd there is about 1sec difference in the 1/4 mile times!!! I have drove both and i like the 5spd much more!!! And that is what i have.
Well since i'm not from Huston i can't really tell you auto or 5spd, but if you are performance minded then the 5spd is the ONLY way to go.
If you are looking for more info on the Prelude then ther are a few very god sites out there. www.hondaprelude.com is one of the best (beside the one we are on!!! It has lots of good links to other Honda sites and there is a Good web ring http://www.yahoogroups.com/community/hondaprelude that i also use.
My dad wants me to buy a piece o crap prelude, maybe one that's been in a wreck but with the engine in good condition. He says that he'll pay for all the body work just get one with a nice engine. I don't know, he's being cheap. lol
I bought my Lude in 2000 it is a 97 and i got it for $15k and it had 30k miles?!! If he will spend the $$ it is alot better to get a car that has not been crashed? I guess that i don't understand the thinking there.
With the newer cars being the uni-body construction it is not as easy to get the car straight as it use to be. I guess that if he demands that you get the Busted up Lude then MAKE sure that you take her to a Very good shop. 9times out of 10 you get what you pay for, so be carefull on the shop that you choose.
lol, my dad's leaving her to a mexican guy across the street He has that he knows what he's doing and he can get it back to normal for cheap. My dad changed his mind about giving me all the money for the car. He says that he'll try to get the cheapest one possible. I don't really care, as long as I have a nice ride/project car.
It would seem to be easer and smarter to get a car that had a car with a blown motor or with really high miles then swap in a new motor! And prolly cheaper.
huh? you're saying that I should get a Prelude with high miles and get a engine swap and it would be cheaper than buying a Prelude MSRP or a beat up Prelude with a good engine and work on the body? I wish I could just get a nice 97-01 Prelude for under 10 grand
