pros can cons of the yellow top optima battery

how many people have this and whats the advantages and disadvantages,,
The dealer that sells the yellow top told me theres not a application for my car, they only have the red top, but i know ive seen the yellow top in the lude before..
he said i might have to switch out the cables for longer ones,,
is there any truth to this. also my batterys been on my car of a little over 3 years and im thinking it might be time to change it... any options on would be very helpful, and i did hit the search button and nothing cameup..

so you just connect them the opposite way? couldn't you just position it so you didn't have to move it?

I have a yellow top as well. I can't find any cons for it.

funny that this thread came up today. My battery just died today and I'm about to get an optima yellow.

haha, nah man, doesn't bother me one bit. Use it to the fullest, I was just giving you crap. I was honestly surprised I was the only one sporting it. Honestly, I totalled the Red 97 so it was time to change it to silver anyway. Welcome to PO BTW.

A deep cycle can be run closer to dead.

here, a little battery lesson first.

Car batteries are made up of 8 "cells" each cell having 1.5 volts. Now, that 1.5 volts can be discharged to 1.2 volts and be perfectly happy. But, drop it below 1.2 volts and you've now "deep cycled" the battery, and severely shortened its life. Now, a deep cycle battery is still a little unhappy about the less then 1.2 V situation, but its physical make up allows for this to happen several times before it gets REALLY angry and stop holding a charge.

cliff notes: you can run a yellow top all the way dead more often then a red top.

But, a red top has a slightly higher CCA (cold cranking amps) rating, which is what starts your car.

hahaha...that's probably the best dayam explanation I've ever heard on batteries....they should put that on the Optima site. Good job

I just picked up an 800 CCA red top battery today. I didn't want to drop a lot of money on a battery so I went with the red top. Car turns over a lot faster now, and since it is a dry cell it will probably handle the pulleys a little better. I charged the original battery all last night on a trickle charger and got 2 starts out of it before it died

incase you guys are looking for a good website

www.tna-sports.com has a great price

BUT, they didn't answer their phone (they're local to me), so I ended up calling pep boys, and pep boys did a price match, so I got my optima yellow for 110+tax from pep boys.

I have a blue top for a year now.
That battery charges fast!
I listen to my music loud, so I tend to drain batteries.
But with the blue top, even after leaving the car untouched for a month, it still has juice to start the car.

I have a yellow top in my car...

When I had my amp wired in I said could you move the battery to the back he said sure...so it is tucked between rear seat and the side of the car behind the passenger front. I have the plastic panels out because I didn't want to cut them when I put the roll bar in. So I now have a sealed dry cell remote battery which moved like 40lbs off of the understeering front end and brought my balance closer to 50 / 50 ok ok it's more like 60 / 40 now but it all helps.
The battery has done nothing but sit there like a lump so it is pretty much perfect.

The butt dyno tells me that the car is faster, the stereo sounds that little bit crisper and I swear that I pick up more chicks... ; )

Heres a orange top (now comes with a red top) that has reversed terminals (like the stock battery) and has the same credentials as the red top, 980 cranking amps and 110 reserve.
