^^good link, and i have done the t/b on abunch of preludes in my days and i have not had a problem but yes i have seen a tensioner fail

Took it to a mechanic first chance I got today. He hasn't called me back yet. However, he did say that the sound it was making means either the dealer put the timing belt on wrong or the autotensioner has failed.

well the tensioner only goes on one way they cant mess it up it might have failed but at the same time,this might sound crazy but you sayed it gets noiser as you rev it up it might even be a a/c clutch bearing going out he might have diagnosed it wrong not saying he did

I just got a call from him. He opened it up and took a look inside. Looks like the dealer over tensioned the belt. He said the belt was on too tight, so I'm guessing that's what heppened. It ended up ripping the tensioner off. He says the rest of the engine looks fine. It neds a new belt, tensioner, and the bolt that secures it. He called the dealer I purchased it from and gave them two options:

1. Pay him to do the work.
2. Send a truck to pick up my car and take it back to their service center, which is about 20 miles away.
