Problems with Launching and V Tec (VAFC Problems I Think)

car 98 type sh

okay i went to the drags yesterday and i tried to launch my car at 5500 rpm i have a vafc and the vtec x over is set at 5000 so when i am reving to launch the car goes into vtec because i am launching at 5500 and vtec engages at 5000 i know v tec isn't supose to kick in when not moving on the stock ecu but vafc engages it so i am getting ready to launch at 5500 rpms then the check engine comes on i still launch it tho so it goes everythign apears to be fine the rpms drop and start to raise once again once i get traction but once i get into v tec the car just stops doesn't go into v tec it just stops at 5000 rpms and throws the atts light so i shut down and just drive normally i pull into the pits use the odb II scan tool and i get the error code 1259

1259 - V Tec Malfunction
*Vtec Solenoid Valve
* Open or short in Vtec Solenoid Valve Circuit
* Vtec Pressure Switch
* Open or Short in VTEC pressure switch circuit
* ECM

i believe this V tec Malfunction is throwing off the ATTS light too

So i raise the vtec cross over to 5800 and launch at 4500 so v tec isn't engaged when i am launching and everything works from there v tec engages at 5800 and everything but i am getting crappy times with 4500 launch and x over at 5800 any ideas ?anyone try to launch their car at the rpm band after v tec is set to come in on their vafc ? any problems ?

thanks alex

go over your installation and check your connections. perhaps you have a loose wire or even a disconnected wire. make sure when you change your fuel or vtec settings, you shut down and restart your car to reset the vafc. also, check your sensor settings on the vafc. one of them should say "4 cyl" and the arrow should be pointing up. and, under car type i think, those two numbers should be 6 and 6. first check the menu settings on the vafc then check you installation. another thing, kiss your clutch goodbye if you keep launching at 5500. start troubleshooting!!!

i have an automatic so i'm not too familiar with the manuals, but i think i've seen people launching at about 3000 or 3500 rpm. if you launch at that rpm, don't you get a lot of either wheel spin or wheel hop?? i have an auto so the only solution is nitrous. i'm just giving you a word of caution. i don't want to hear another story about how honda trannies suck when people abuse them. abuse=broken!! just read any of those threads of recent. that's my theory, at least.
