Problem with P0700 and P1709, Please help!!

Hi,

I just bought my '97 Prelude few months ago. My auto transimission seems to have problems recenly. It usually works fine in the morning or after few hours not drivng it. But, sometimes, the mode indicator on dashboard (D4, D3, 2, and 1) will not be in the position. And, it wont change to 4th gear when I switch to D4, no matter how hard I press the gas pedal. The D4 indicator light will only be on when I move it between D4 and D3 at a very werid spot.

I brought it to check, it gives me two code P0700 and P1709. And the mechanic suggest me to replace the Tranny mode switch, but not 100% sure if that will fix the problem.

Have anyone had this problem before?

Please Help~~

If it starts messing up after using it for a while, I'd really suggest installing a transmission cooler. It should solve this issue, which sounds like its over heating after some use.

I made a how to here HOW TO: Install Automatic Transmission Cooler! - Preludepower.com

Can you use the SS mode? How does it shift there?

Looks like you may be a victim of the 100% failure rate...

I thought there was a gigantic thread about how coolers hardly help at all; some people even said they only extend the life/functionality for, at best, 5k miles(I think there has been many more than a couple threads).

Sorry bout this man, and good luck.

The SS is not functioning when the light indicator is not in position too.

But do you think it will be the best solution if I replace the Transmission Mode Switch? Will it solve the problem?
