Prelude SH dyno

I finally installed some of the stuff that has been laying around here for a while and went to the dyno. Found out that the V-AFC settings (my slightly modified settings from that AOL page) worked well. I might modify them a little looking at the air/fuel ratio from the dyno. Interestingly enough, we were leaning out the fuel a little bit more in the upper bands each time from the 2nd to the 4th run, yet the A/F ratio didn't change at all or went backwards to what we thought would happen. Makes me wonder how accurately the V-AFC controls the fuel.

Anyway, here's the dyno of my '98 SH. I'll post the modifications below. I'll also take the stock SH dyno from VTEC.net. I believe this was Charles Wang's dyno from Group-A.

My Dyno

Stock:

Modifications:
AEM cold air intake
Mugen Headers
Mugen Exhaust
Apex-i V-AFC
UR pullies (accessory only, no crank)
NTPOG OBDII workaround

The dyno was done on stock SH rims w/ A520's on them. The spark plugs should of been changed at 60k miles (12k ago) along with doing a valve adjustment.

I'm happy with the outcome. Ended up making more power than stock from 5.8k up and the torque curve looks much nicer than the stock one. Though it would of been nice to break 180! If anyone knows any little hints that are STX legal (auto-x class) post it up. I want to break 180.

Looks nice and smooth. I don't know though, I kinda expect a little more with the mods you got. I got a 163 with just a cai and headers. I guess temp and elevation also plays a part

If your feeling brave you can add the crank pulley and that easily put you at 180. Seriously though you should be able to find that 2hp in a tune up.

Nice job. Your so freakin' close to 180 hp and 140 torque.

I'm going to take my car to the dyno tommorow. I have only intake and exhaust though, so i know i'm not going to be getting those kinda numbers. oh well, maybe one day.

wow, you really smoothed out that dip at the vtec crossover. Looks nice. Maybe with your race wheels on, you will break 180.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

I'm not going to install a solid crank pulley to net a few hp. After looking at Billy's bearings it just isn't worth it for the gains. Which is why I went ahead and special ordered only the UR accessory pullies. Their diameter is only very slightly (about 1 cm) larger than stock, but are much lighter. I chose these since I didn't want to underdrive my alternator much since I'm running a >1000watt sound system.

As per the coolant bypass, by the numbers I don't see any kind of power loss during the runs from heat soak. The numbers are consistant enough not to vary more than 1.3 hp for 4 runs. The highest HP run was the 2nd and the highest torque run was the 3rd. I'll probably do the bypass if I ever install an ITR throttle body.

The engagement for VTEC is set at 4700 RPM. I might post the fuel settings up later, since right now I don't have them written down. But there will be a disclaimer if do end up posting them

"I'm happy with the outcome" means that I'm satisfied with the numbers. I gained quite a bit in the low end, picked up a good amount of torque down there. The top end looks real nice to me, there's no major drop in the torque and I made 25 hp over stock. It doesn't quite follow the $100 per hp formula since the mods cost me about $2k. I'm a little bit ahead. We'll see if I can find anything that'll net me 2-3 extra hp and .4 lb/ft.

Those are very nice numbers for the mods you have. How does your part throttle perfomance feel?
