Prelude freak out

So I was drove my car about 15miles from the house to a friends house. everything was fine, no problems. Acouple hrs later I went to start the car to drive home and it sounded like the starter wouldn't start. Everything else looked fine. The battery was fully charged (i checked). Since everything looked fine we pushed it and started it.

I got on the freeway and drove about 3-5 miles and one of my HID's went out. Then the dashboard cluster lights dimmed. The needle started to go all crazy. I then noticed that the temp needle was on red so i pulled over on the side of the freeway. At the same time the other HID went out to and the all the lights on the dashboard. I turned off the car and tried to start it again but this time I didn't hear anything and had no lights just the back ones.

I got the car towed home. I was wondering if you guys have any ideas of what could have happened. Or what I could check into. Or has something similar happened to you and what did you do??

I would first suggest to check any and all fuses. Then proceed to check the wiring in the front half of the car, but I am no wiring expert and honestly can't help you very much.

Sounds liek you have ground short and that your alternator isnt working, as if it were then when you were driving it it would be powering everything. THae way it sits now it seems that you push started the car, then drove it until it killed the battery. Then seeing as the alternator isnt workgin it didnt charge the battery so now you have no power anywhere. I would look to make sure all your gorunds are connected tehn look for short somewhere. IMO its a short that has caused your alternator to go. Or possibly the alternator shorted out and is ****ed.

x2 for dead alternator

Did you throw the belt? If not, then probably a short like bouck said.

I would bet it was your alternator...I've had similar problems that turned out to be the alternator.
You said that u checked the battery? How did u check it? Did u just check the voltage with the key in the off position, if so check the voltage drop when you are actually trying to crank the car over? Or just try and get it to auto zone or similar store and have them check ur batt and alternator.

The light would not necessarily come on...that's what happened to me. The alternator was intermittent and wouldn't set off the light.

i am having the same problem on my 92 lude, i cant figure out how to post on this dang site to get answers to my questions. my dash cluster is dead and my car will turn over and start but die immediatelly. very frustrating cuz this is my first lude. ive had it for about a year and have been able to fix everything myself thus far. this has me stumped. i will use what ive read in your posts to the best of my ability. please does anybody have any ideas??? no dash lights, not starting. battery light shortly before this happened. (ive already replaced the alt.)
