Power steering whine

98 Prelude, 145,000 miles.
Some times when it is started there is a squeel. But when I turn the steering wheel there is a whine. Could this be a sympton of the power steering pump going bad? There is a very slow leak but I keep the fluid at the right level. What do you think?

If there is air entering the pump it will make the whining noise. If you still have the original intake hose, I would replace that.

I'm not sure if it is the original. But I will check it out and may change it. Thanks

P/S whine is usually from low fluid and/or air in the lines

They are correct. Happened to my old prelude and got everything replaced to find out it was just the oil. But hey could be your power steering pump going out. You dont want air in your steering

Just changed the fluid

Well you were right. I emptied the resevoir and then added new fluid. Drove it for a few miles and it quit whining. Hopefully it will not squeel when started cold. Many thanks.
