Power shifting?

Hey, does any one here know about power shifting??? My freind has a CRX Si with ZC motor, and we raced because he said that he would be able to beat me with this. We raced and I still beat him by about a car and a half, but he was power shifting (I can hear him shifting gears without using the clutch). What is this all about? Is that bad for a car? I dont know much about this....How is it done? Does it make a car slower? Any way, just wanted to hear some thoughts...Later!

My understanding of the power shift.....

It involves not using the clutch....which if you think about it, is not a good thing. Most people utilize the "power shift" when racing for titles. Yes, it does allow you to shift faster because there is no time spent working the clutch, but by not using your clutch you are basically jamming into the gear, which is horrible for your tranny. Now i may be wrong with the above info, but if i am right then your friend might want to change his driving habits..(unless he has money to burn). Also, why the heck would he even attempt to race a Prelude??? lol

powershifting is shifting without letting up on the gas and switching fast into gear. It makes u faster.

Hey guys, I'm new here. Love the site. My pop was telling me about power shifting (Old school dragger). It is not bad for the tranny if you get it right. It can only be done at the very high end of the rpm range. Say between 6 and 7. You are not really jamming the gears as much as you are just allowing them to slip into place. And no you don't let your foot off the floor board. Hope you have 10w as far as synthetics are concerned because you need the protection, but I would recommend a kevlar wheel if you are thinking about doing it.

Thanks guys, I dont know about this too much. I still don't know how keeping the gas engaged all the way and shifintg with the clutch will do much, other than rev up too high.....But I do see how you can go faster by shifting without the clutch mechanism. Any way, Thanks again! Just wanted to know if this was bad behavior for the drive train. I know that the PRELUDE is not the fastest, but I do enjoy a spirited drive every now and then........
