Power Folding Mirrors Questions

Alright well Ive been looking for some answers, and my search helped but didnt completely clarify it.

From this link Post #3 It refers to my first question:
jdm power folding mirrors?

Im looking into buying a set of power folding mirrors. Most of them are pretty beat up and scratched. Not a huge deal to paint, but I was wondering if I bought the new mirrors with all the switches, relays, etc could i just switch the "housing" or shell from my current mirrors to the JDM ones? By the sounds of it this is completely possible, but just invloves a bit more work correct?

Next question that I havent found any results on:

Since I have heated mirrors I really dont want to loose that feature. If i were to splice the wire, and hook it up to my rear defrost it should all work fine right?

Thanks
Fife

a. if you were to buy new JDM mirrors like you said, then why would you want to switch the shell?

b. you will have to swap the shells anyways to make them fit. At least that's how it is on 4th gens.

c. what is the point in buying new ones like you said? All you really need is the inner components and motors.

d. yes you can keep your heated feature as well and hook it up to the defroster. Should be an easy as running and splicing a wire or two.

Because my mirrors are in perfect condition, and any i find for sale are beat up and scratched

This is news to me. Can anyone else clarify this for a 5g. Not doubting you, just havent seen this mentioned before

Ive looked and have yet to find a source that sells just the components. If you know of a place, or person who has some please let me know

Thanks I thought this was the case, but was just double checking. Doesnt suond like a difficult task

Thanks for the quick reply man. I appreciate it. PS whats your admins user name?

There's a method in keeping the defrosted feature with folding mirrors WITHOUT cutting or splicing anything. I'm not sure on this, but it might not be a good idea to splice two additional heating components onto one line. Heating coils draw a decent amount of current and could blow something.

The issue here is the heating pad is sandwiched between the glass and mirror backing. You would have to separate this and get it into the new mirror. Atleast I remember stumbling upon a thread without someone talking about this. If I find it again and remember this thread, I'll let you know.

Thanks man. I never thought of combining the two and having an issue. I do know about the backing behind the mirrors. I had to replace a mirror this summer and the ****ers ripped it off and threw it out when I wasnt looking!

I'm pretty sure for 5th gens you can swap the outsides because they look to be identical at least IIRC.

dude, I don't think you understood what I told you.

1. You are keeping your USDM shells.

2. Don't worry about the JDM power folding mirrors being beat up or scratched, you are not gonna be using those shells anyways. Only the components.

3. I never said that there is a place to buy only the inside components, I meant that you will be buying the crappy beat up JDM mirrors and you will be using the components from those. Like the motors and mounting hardware.

4. Do you understand now?

I understood fine that I would be using my own shells. I was simply curious if instead of buying the whole setup, I could just buy the components.

I don't think buying just the mirror motors is possible, unless you know someone in Japan that has ties to the Honda OEM parts, like someone at a dealership, and even if you did, it's not worth the price because you can get the complete mirrors on ebay for less. Hey, keep us updated on the whole thing with keeping the heated feature.
