POS Carbon Fiber OEM dash trim...

Just a question for you guys..

I bought and just put in the OEM factory carbon fiber dash kit. Everything is fine (doors were a *****!) except for the center console piece. It is just tape crap that sticks onto the center console.

I put it on but for some reason, the front will not stay sticked on. Did you guys need double-sided tape to make sure that yours stick? Is there any other options that I have to make this thing stick down?

It's really frustrating, probably because when I bought Honda OEM stuff, I expected top quality finish and fit.

Thanks in advance.
-Brian.

Mine doesn't either. I even took it off cleaned everything VERY VERY good and used 3M body adhesive tape and it STILL doesn't stay down in the front. This summer it's coming back out and my ass if GLUING it down.

BTW I've even tried to warn it up a bit with a heat gun and then hold it down with duct tape while the double sided tape was first put on and it still didn't last more then a week. PITA

The other pieces, doors and the radio/a/c part are a full replacement right? Just go to your local hobby shop and get some servo tape for the center console piece.

I was just debating whether or not to buy the oem dash trim.. *rethinking*. But if that 3m double sided tape worked then I might get it. How much did you guys pay?

I used 3m double sided tape on mine with no problems. It stays down perfectly. It was installed during summer months. Maybe yours doesn't adhere as well in a colder climate.

Mine came from the factory with CF because I live in Australia. The fit and finish is perfect, and it stays attached perfectly. They might use glue in the factory, I'm not sure.

wait a minute.. u guys mean you went to Honda dealer and they sold u plastic CF stickers for the dash?

I live in Canada and we have a new model called SE. It comes with factory CF dash and window control area. I am 100% sure it's not a overlay on top of the black dash, the whole dash is actually made from CF (dunno if its real cf or not though), not added on top.

?? thought if u buy OEM from Honda, they shoulda replace the whole dash for u?

The US OEM kit is not real carbon fiber nor is any other countries to best of my knowledge
All pieces are a direct replacement except for the center console which is stick on
I must be the ONLY person to NOT have a problem with the center piece sticking on, this might be attributed to me cleaning it more thoroughly than most people
The US Preludes don't come with the trim as standard equipment
There, I'm done.......if it doesn't stick try either cleaning the console or better tape. It's not a hard problem to fix unless you're lazy
I used Lysol All-Purporse Disinfectant cleaner with Fresh Spring scent. Then I used some alcohol pads to clean it, and it still doesn't stick.

I think I'm going to try that heavy duty double-sided tape idea.. if that doesnt work, I'm using craft glue or something.

I used Fantastic.
To you people who are having trouble....also try using a hairdryer to heat up the console before you stick on the trim piece. Once on put a LOT of your weight on it to get it to stick.
If you're in a cold climate and trying to put it on now you're going to have difficulty. You could just wait until it gets a little bit warmer but whatever. I know it sucks to have parts lying around and not on the car...

I just used some black RTV sealant to hold my center piece down in the front and it worked perfect. The nice part about that stuff is it holds like mad but you could get it off later if you really wanted to. Put some underneath and then wedge a water bottle between the center console and the bottom of the dash and VIOLA! It's been holding up fine. Sooner or later I'll get rid of every little quirk I have about my car....well maybe not that sunroof/interior creak I can't find for sh1t!

Where do you get that stuff from? Maybe I'll use some chewed bubblegum.. it sticks damn well to the bottom of your shoes, so it must stick well to the plastic.

Any auto parts store will have it. It's just a black gasket sealant that's more or less silicone but it holds great and if you ever wanted to you could rub the stuff off.
