Planning on buying a 97 Prelude

Hey guys im planning on buying this 97 Prelude SH Edition. ~90k Miles. For about $6000.

My questions are....

Is this a good deal?
How long do typical prelude last with basic maintenance?
what should i watch out when buying?

It depends. How my much do you like fifth gen preludes. I wanna be buried in mine. (If your lost try kbb.com some where close to half kkb is a good deal. But its a prelude so ask yourself.

On what to look for when buying. Know more about cars, bring or take it to someone who does. Sorry cliff notes not available.

if the timing belt/water pump and all other belts have been changed thats a def a good thing. Another thing would be to run a compression check and leak down test on the car to make sure the engine is somewhat healthy.

ask owner if they have performed a tune up recently. Check the chasis for any bends. Brakes rotors and tires should be decent. CHeck coolant for oil in it and the engine for any leaks. Has clutch been replaced?? if so when. Check if gears grind. A/C works along with other electronic equipment?? etc... DONT FORGET ANYTHING bc you'll be kicking your own ass later. GL

Oh yea, the price is not bad with that mileage as long as its been taken care of and its not falling apart.

That's an amazing price in my case, however, do go over ALL of the stuff listed a couple of posts up.

HOWEVER, the story changes if it's an auto, is it? That may be why it's sop cheap, but if not, then that's a great deal.

Hondas themselves tend to last ~250k miles on regular maintenance alone. Check the outside for rust/dents/scratches. Check the inside for the same. Check the engine/transmission (including a compression test). Make sure the Check Engine Light and ATTS light are not on. Give the car a PROPER test drive. It's a decent deal if everything checks out.

Keep in mind, you'll be replacing the clutch soon.
