The reasoning behind buddy prices for maintenance and professional price for paint is facility. Anybody can do the mechanical work in their own garage. If you can read from a Helms and have the right tools, ANYBODY can do the work. It's quite a bit more difficult to set up a properly functioning paint booth. And if you do have a booth, do you really trust anybody to paint your car for $150? You may say yes to try and prove your point, but I seriously doubt you would in the real world.

But like Michelle said, the op hasn't been here since his original post. So what's the point?

$150 is getting out of paint supplies cheap.

primer, paint, clear, the thinners, sand paper. materials alone cost me $300 to paint bumpers, and that was with a 15% discount at the supplier

It cost me $600 to have my cf hood re-clearcoated after I picked up some small chips. My uncle did it.

The Car

Thank you for the replies. I bought the car yesterday. It ran me 4,200 dollars for a 2001 Honda Prelude Manual(5 Speed) with 92,000 miles on it and aftermarket paint, AEM intake system and rear exhaust, the car with a DEH-P6000UB model Pioneer player in it. It has stock prelude tires and rims. The clutch is in great shape.

So, I think I got a good deal. About time, after spending forever looking at Honda Preludes. People just want way too much for cars that have 130+ miles on them and are in the case of most of the ones I ran into, that being '97 model preludes and earlier, 12+ years old.

The Car

http://www.freewebs.com/antoinetteri...ndaprelude.jpg There is a picture of the car. I have rather come too like the paint scheme and found seat-covers too match. The color scheme is both simple and done well enough, so do not see the point in paying for something different too which(If done well) would require stripping the scheme that is already on the car as well as repainting it.

I drove the car a good 350-400 miles too get it back home and had no problems, the car drove like a dream. Which is far more then I can say for the car I was driving, heh. The only qualm I have with the car as of right now is that I feel the tinting-job will need too be removed and redone. But I do not imagine that costing a fortune too have done by a professional shop as there are three nearby, I just have yet too quote them.

Either way, for a used car that is eight years old, the car looks and drives nice. The inside is clean and well taken care of. I may be looking too change the rims, but that is something too look into in the distant future when I can afford too. That and I find it hard too find a set of aftermarket rims I like that do not either look too trashy or overdone.

Did the seller happen to mention front end damage done to the car? The lack of grille and gaps between the headlights and hood are usually evidence of a collision.

That sousnd like a good price but always check to see if it had the serviceing done, hondas usually need new t/b and water pump at 88,000 miles. Fir the price i would buy it, even if it wasn't in greatest shape, 4200 is cheap, i paid twice that for one of mine. Buy and and do the servicing and the plugs and all that and you will have a great car for lik 6 g's.....unless it is sport shift, then if it is buy it and get the tranny rebuilt and put paddle shift into it....

I knew about the damage when I bought it and carefully inspected the car too make sure there was no hidden damage, or more damage done then he stated. But, he was very upfront about the car having rear-ended someone both in the advertisement for the car and when I met him. The Grill was being kept in the trunk and has been put back on the car. The damage is minimal and the frame is not bent. The car does not trail too one side or the other, drives just fine. Finding a decent Honda Prelude that is in very good condition and does not cost a fortune is very hard. This is as close as I came after months of looking. Well, at least as close as I came considering how far I was willing too drive for a used car. :P

As for the rims, they are being replaced when I can afford too and manage to find something that both looks good on the car and is not too gaudy or tacky. I want something that both looks nice yet is simple, likely some black rims of a sort. But, with new rims comes new tires, so I am gonna work on that at a later point in the future.
