About too look into purchasing a Honda Prelude. I am looking into a 2001 Honda Prelude with a Black/Yellow paint scheme and V-Tec engine with only 92,000 miles on it. There are no dents, marks, or rust spots on the body and the inside looks immaculate. Is the car worth $4,200 and a 5 hour drive?
If it is a manual, and you like the black/yellow theme (you might want to look under the hood and in door jams to see what the original color was .. you may have a red engine bay..)
But go for it, that's a great price for a car like that if it really does have no rust or dings or anything!!

i'd check to see what kind of service has been done - timing belt, clutch, etc.
and car fax - make sure it wasn't painted bumble bee because of an accident. look on each body panel for the original vin sticker. i might even take it to like pepboys to have them scan codes - just to make sure they didn't take the cel light out of the gauge cluster.
no to auto.

That's a great price is the car is in as good of shape as you say. I payed more for an older one with more miles in similar condition with a MT. Like everyone said, the auto is a weak transmission and make sure it doesn't have frame damage or anything like that. 5 hours is a long way to drive to get there and find out the images are photoshopped and the car runs like balls. If you got nothing better to do on a weekend go for it.
See if the timing belt or clutch have recently been replaced. Painting the car is a lot cheaper than servicing it.

At a dealership, TB+Clutch would cost you ~$2000. Paint job should not cost anywhere near that much. And Maaco = $299.
I'm not suggesting getting the car painted by Maaco, more just saying your comment was pointless and irrelevant.

Now I'll use my super math powers!
My clutch cost $500 (oem parts and labor) to replace. I used a reputable shop.
I replaced my own timing belt and tensioner for the cost of parts ($35)+ $125 for a friend to help, since I hadn't done the work before.
Okay, stay with me now.
$500 + $125+$35 = $660.
Now find me a decent paint job (materials, prep, labor) for $660.
I'll try my best to explain this so that the OP and YOU can follow. First, I said "at a dealership". Of course there are other options. Hell, I replaced my TBelt and clutch for under $500 total (parts & labor). Second, my emphasis is on function over form. Basically, the OP should be more concerned with service records than color. The car has 90k miles, meaning the Tbelt and clutch will need to be done soon if not already done. If they have been done, it would be cheaper to get the car painted to a color he likes (assuming he doesn't like the bumble bee scheme) than it would to purchase a car that is already the color he wants but doesn't have the clutch and belt already changed. Again, this is assuming dealership prices. This has nothing to do with other future maintenance or repairs because that applies to all vehicles.
Try posting something helpful to the OP, like me.

I figured $660 in parts/labor for what is, more or less, what he should figure for 100,000 mile maintainance. I also claimed that you couldn't get a decent paint job for that amount (or less). Look around. You should expect to pay $2000+ for good paint work.
Therefore, paint expense > timing belt & clutch replacement.

You're quoting "buddy" prices for the maintenance but bodyshop prices for the paint. Apples and oranges.
My "buddy" price for a full paintjob is paint + $150. Where does that figure into your math?
