People with Mugen Header ...

As I said in another post, I've been driving around without my radio for a few days and was wondering if my Mugen header is supposed to make my engine noise sound different. When I get on the gas, I get kind of a hissing noise ... just more air rushing out or what? I don't think I have any leaks because I've checked multiple times idling and revving(had the gf rev it). Sound normal?

I think so.

James (Chan) told me it seems to make that hiss, and he had no problems with his header except for the O2 sensor bung. But that was an old problem on the first Mugen headers brought to North America.

Just a thought-did you torque down the header using the factory pattern on a NEW manifold to head gasket. Also did you use anti-seize (if permitted) on the O2 sensor threads.

ok great....thanks man....I inspected it very thoroughly since I bought it used. I didn't notice any cracks or anything.

One thing I actually have forgotten to check is the O2 sensor area to see if there are leaks....I highly doubt it though since that ares is threaded and I tightened it down pretty tight.

I did buy a new manifold gasket and there don't seem to be any leaks. There's no black soot around any of that area.

thanks guys.

The hissing sound was around the 3500rpm range to the 5000rpm range.... no big deal.

You bought it from Paul? he's a good guy, I dont' think he's rip you off
ENJOY

I can't remember what his name was. he was local here in san jose and he said it was like the first mugen header king sold. I was like god damn. hope they didn't change anything with their modifying procedures....I bought it anyway. The previous owner said his hit the frame of the car when the engine shifted. I don't have that problem with mine. I guess every car is different. I also didn't have a problem with the O2 sensor location. Seemed fine to me, but I haven't check up on it in a while.....

yes....when I had the O2 sensor pointing up it made violent rattles around the 2500-3000rpm range. After the O2sensor wsa relocated and side mounted...the rattle was less. It was there but not that bad. I thnk after awhile it just kind went away cause it banged my heat shield so much it made clearance for itself.

It is a good header...Enjoy

I haven't noticed any hissing noise, but just noise in general. The header + exhaust makes for a lot more noise and different sounds in different rpms.
