I have a 1999 Black 5th gen prelude and can't decide on what rims to buy. What are your opinions on the following rims? (all prices are for the rims and tires combined)

1. Acura RSX Type-S rims

2. RuffRacing R280

$999 - 18in

3. SpeedyWheels Lite-5

$919 - 18in
$699 - 17in

4. Velocity VW211

$899 - 18in
$719 - 17in

5. Konig Zero

$1,299 - 18in
$1,019 - 17in

6. HD Wheels Clutch

$1,139 - 18in
$979 - 17in

Bronze/Gold+Black car=Win

This is all opinion, it's your car, do what you want with it. The main advice is, get 17's, 18 is too big, low profile tires are no fun.

I'm partial to black rims on black cars...as you could tell by looking at my car. lol. I will 2nd the opinion about 18's being to large, I had a set on my car at one time but got tired of rubbing and the cost of tires.

Also, IMO pretty much all aftermarket wheels will look like crap regardless of which ones you choose if you are still at stock ride height. Have you lowered your car? If so, then how much?

Thanks for the advice on getting 17in rims. No I have not lowered my car yet. I'm kind of new to all of this, so do you have to have your car professionally done to lower it or can you DIY?

well you can definitely install it yourself (the suspension) all depending on how dirty you wanna get, it's generally not too complicated. I do suggest you lower it first though as indylude18 said, ANY wheels look like crap on an un-lowered car....

I want to lower my Prelude and would prefer to DIY if I can. I'd love to have coilovers so I can adjust it to a perfect level or perfect for me, but then again lowering springs are much cheaper. Mine is a daily driver too - 175k and rolling - so I want a good ride. I'll be following this link to see what you guys suggest for blkprelude.

I'm actually the opposite of Indy, I don't like black rims on black cars, or at least not on imports.

I Think all of your selections except 2 and 3 would look great.

There are no special tools needed to lower the car, just a jack and basic hand tools. Certainly can be a DIY.

Lowering springs are not cheap either. You can't run lowering springs on your stock struts (well not for long anyway), so you will have to replace both the springs and the struts. However there are plenty of options and a broad price range with either ground control sleeves on other shocks, or coilovers that are actually part of the shocks like teins.

I have used both coilovers and coils and struts, currently i use eibach pro springs and koni yellow struts, with some other support peices and it is far mroe aggressive than the coil overs i had, it is also much easier to adjust them for stiffness with out hassle.
As for the rims, gold or bornze or whatever numebr 6 is, but in the end it is your choice. Black on clack cars looks ok as long as the rims suit the car, i like the gunmetal personally but to each thier own.

@indylude18 hey thanks for the info about lowering spring and stock shocks. I didn't know that you couldn't run them that long. I have been told i would probably like function and form 1 coilovers. I've seen them for about $600.00 so the budget is about right. I just want to lower the car where it should sit and have a nice ride

^You could always get a used set as well. Deals like this: Tein Coilovers come along fairly often. Just don't buy any with unreasonably high mileage on them, shocks do have a limited lifespan before they wear out.
