Opinion: a hood scoop on a 5th generation Prelude?

I've always liked stylish cars with functional hood scoops. I'm curious to know if anyone else thinks a 5th generation Prelude would look good with one.

To actually do it, I think a fiberglass hood would be required as the stock hood has reinforcement beams straight down the middle and your average carbon fiber aftermarket hood is difficult to paint.

Still, I think this would be pretty cool.

Well, we never see any good examples of this kind of exterior modification because it's such an involved undertaking.

I still say it's a cool idea. It could look really nice, but it's too much trouble just for appearance sake.

I wholeheartedly agree. Hood scoops are meant to serve a functional purpose: draw cold air into the intake. Because the point of entry of our intakes is located in the fender, a hood scoop on our ludes would be useless. In my opinion, things that are put on a car to look like they do something when in fact they do nothing is the very definition of rice.

you could always put like a vent on either side, and have one of them functional
with a short air intake it would actually serve a purpose... kinda lol
someone say something

so make it a functional hood scoop then, with a custom short ram that takes cold air. in principle, wouldnt that be better than an AEM CAI?

Wouldn't a hood scoop hurt the aerodynmaics of the car?

well, then the hood would have an opening in which rain would just pour onto the intake = Not good

On paper it sounds like it would be a benefit, doesn't it? Actually, cutting the factory hood directly over the airbox location and molding on a simple NACA duct is a lot easier.

BUT as to its effectiveness? I'd have to agree with everyone here. Unless you've got a turbocharger or supercharger sucking in air through that open filter intake, it probably is as effective as one of those front bumper mounted intakes

Don't get me wrong. I originally posed the question a hood scoop on a Prelude because I thought it might _look_ nice. On that I still stand, but otherwise it's almost pointless even with a blown engine.
