Oil Pressure light???

Hey guys,

I just got done with my jdm engine rebuild. I have my factory oil pump. All new gaskets,o-rings, etc.. How long does it take for the oil pressure light to go off on initial startup? The engine has about 45 miles on it now, and it seems like it stays on for approx 3-4 seconds then goes off. But until it goes off it has a slight knocking, then the light goes off and engine is whisper quiet. Also, what would cause that same knocking noise when the engine gets hot. It only does it from 1000-1500 rpms, it's like a slight rattling noise?
If it was like a bearing or rod wouldnt it do it all the time??

Thanks,

Almost sounds like a failing timing belt auto tensioner.

i ordered a new oil pump and auto tensioner just in case but a timing belt auto tensioner has nothing to do with oil pressure. All I know is that it knocks slightly on initial startup and the oil light it on for at least 7 seconds and soon as the pressure builds and the light goes off engine is quiet.Sooo.. I'm hoping it's the pump and I don't have to plastiguage the bearings...

sry to say it but the slight knocking sounds like a rod and no it would necissarily do it all the time just a certain point where it is agitated enough to make noise so you might want to get that checked out if the tensioner and new oil pump doesnt fix the problem.

Drain your oil to check to metal for shavings....pull the valve cover and check clearances and see if anything's loose. Was the block sleeved or honed?
