Oil leakage problem

As I was coming home from work today i noticed my oil light had come one, i figured it was a sensor problem because a month ago i had gotten a routine oil change and i figured it was no biggie. When i got home i decided to pop the hood and check the oil and when i checked the oil the rod was clean as a whistle thats when i knew i had a problem. i went to autozone and bought 5 quarts oil and put 4 in thats when my light disappeared; Good sign, i thought, i waited a few and decided to move the car forward, about a length, and to my astonishment my 4 quarts where on the floor. Now, i am in a state of shock as this is my work vehicle. By the way, i neglected to mention its a 99 type sh. Fast foward from when i moved it, i reversed my car to find out that the oil is leaking from under the drivers side. anyone know what could this be? i really need some answers. thanks.

The drivers side has almost all of your seals for the engine. I'm surprised that you found all of it on the ground after you put 4 quarts in... that means there is a hole in the pan or drain plug... But if you meant there is alot of oil on the ground (not all of it) then it could be coming from a seal. There is the seal where the crankshaft connects to your crankshaft pulley. There is another seal at your oil pump/balancer shaft assembly. And there are seals up top where the camshafts connect to the camshaft gears.

Why don't you take the driver's side wheel off, spray down your whole side of that engine with brake cleaner (like Brakleen) so it's nice and free from previous oil and debris, then start adding oil again and this way you can see where it's coming from.

You should try to have two sets of eyes on this area as you do it, and that means raising the whole car up (perhaps on stacks of wood if you don't have jackstands). Don't just raise the front up, because that might affect where the oil comes out of. Make sure it's all level when you do.

I just had to replace the oil cooler o-ring in mine. It leaked pretty heavily and left a nice little trail everytime time I went somewhere.
