oil leak need help

Hey guys my 97 sh has developed an oil leak. Seems to be coming from the oil cooler or the oil filter base. Is there a way to get to these 2 items without taking the atts unit out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Number 7 and 32 are the parts i need to replace in the attached diagram......................oil leak need help-oil-pump-97-sh.jpg

32 - yes Any Tips for Oil Cooler Removal?

7 - this one is much tougher to get to, dropping the ATTS unit seems like the best way

I have been putting this off for a while now. If you are able to replace #7 please let me know what worked for you.

I am going to try to do it today at least the oil cooler o ring. I am going to see if I can feel the plate bolts to see if I can get them out an easier way.

I did the round o-ring last weekend and it went pretty well. Not sure why I thought it was hard when I tried it before and gave up. Just try different socket/extensions until you have room to hold the 30mm socket on tight and flat with your left hand while you turn the wrench with your right hand.

Unfortunately for me the o-ring I took out looked almost new so my leak is definitely at the base gasket. You can see/touch two of the three bolts but wrenching them is another story. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I would recommend checking your V-Tech Solenoid. Just to be safe cuz those suckers go out. and wouldnt be a bad idea to replace the two gaskets on it. I had a huge oil leak and didn't know where it was coming from until my buddy pointed it was from the V-Tech Solenoid cuz the same thing happened to him. I was leaking about 4-5qts every 2-4 days.

I have been putting this off for a while now. If you are able to replace #7 please let me know what worked for you.

Yeah #32 seal blew out for me while the car was running ....luckily I had just pulled into the parking spot at my apartment and the engine was just off idle. And yeah my car --> ed out about 4 of the 5 quarts everywhere; firewall, exhaust (cat), pretty much everything it could get to. Had it towed to the shop where I work the next morning, and had the job done before my shift started .

Now my car does burn oil (black smoke?), especially during WOT and VTEC , and yes...the back of my car is black, rather than red .

With all that said my car is still, slowly, leaking oil from, as best I can tell, the oil filter area. I know it's not the filter's gasket, torqued that down properly, didn't double gasket and it's dry. Can't be #32, just replaced it and it's dry. That really only leaves #7 in that area, it's also one that I can't see. I'm considering trying to replace #7 with the ATTS still on, probably going to need a mirror and some swivel/universal joint sockets.

Anyone tried this before?
Anyone know the head size of the bolts that hold the oil filter base to the block?

I tried it with partial success. I got the #7 gasket removed without dropping ATTS by removing the top and left bolts but it seemed to me that reassembly was going to be much harder. So I ended up dropping the ATTS unit which made it super easy to replace the #7 gasket. You can also check the oil pressure switch. I was nervous about doing this but in the end it was time consuming but not terribly difficult work. IIRC the bolts were 12mm but not 100% sure on that.
