oil cooler and transmission cooler question!!!

im at 101,000 miles on my car and my engine is burning at least 1.5 to 2 quarts per 3000 miles, and transmission is coming to its end of its warranty (tranny died at 79,000 miles and got a howard engineering reman and the warranty ends at 109,000 miles)

I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD INSTALL BOTH COOLERS AT THE SAME TIME...........
1. WOULD BOTH FIT TOGETHER IF I WERE TO GET BOTH?
2. IF THEY BOTH DID FIT, WOULD THE REGULAR RADIATOR NOT GET ENOUGH AIR?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can put both up front, there is plenty of room. I had both until one of my oil cooler lines broke less than 24 hours after I installed it.

Here is where I installed the tranny cooler

and the oil cooler mounted on that center beam to the left (passenger side) of the tranny cooler, not at the same height, but lower.

If you're worried about the car overheating, buy a 5 speed radiator when you install a tranny cooler. The SS has a tranny cooler built into the radiator, so the radiator is a tad smaller. When you install a separate tranny cooler, you can replace the radiator so that you gain some cooling capacity.

If the radiator does now get enough air flow, then the car will overheat. You can install the coolers in a different location and use some fans to pull air across them, though.

buying a 5 speed radiator would definitely raise the price too much from budget im trying to keep with-in........... you think if i installed the trans cooler on the drivers side and oil cooler on the passenger side, like the picture above.......should get a tach for the coolant temperature???

the reason i would go thru this hassle of buying 2 coolers is to prolong the life of the car (tranny and engine) because i have no other alternative due to cost but to keep the car until it dies

so shark ur not using an oil cooler then just a tranny cooler? wouldn't the oil cooler be very beneficial to your JRSC setup?

I had to remove the oil cooler after the line busted (of course). After I removed it, I learned of the need of a thermostat. The expense of new stainless braided hoses and a thermostat, and the effort of purchasing what I needed and reinstalling it all got the better of me, so the oil cooler hasn't yet made it back on. I question my own need for it (it is just a street car, I don't run it at the track), and I am concerned about the pressure drop involved. If this was a turbo setup, I would want to run one (turbo heats the oil up).

I've had no issues with having my tranny cooler in front of the radiator. My coolant temp floats around in the 180s.

No, my cooler setup never had a thermostat, which is one reason it has not been reinstalled. I bought the JR cooler kit, and regret it now. Too expensive, overall poor quality, no thermostat. For the cost of the JR kit, I could have pieced together my own oil cooler setup of comparable quality with a thermostat. (When referring to thermostat in this thread, I'm talking about an oil system thermostat, not about the one in the engine coolant system although that did get replaced in my setup, as well.)
