Offset

Why is it that hardly anyone carries wheels for our cars in +48 offset (17inch). Wherever I look, they are always in a +40 offset. What the heck is up with that?!

44 or 45 will still work depending on other things.
I have pics of my Type C5's that show the amount that they come to the lip if you want to see.

I think +45's look pretty good, might even say better than the stock +55mm

the offset of my rims are 42. There is no rubbing with 1.5 inch drop.

pics would be good I really don't know too much about offset.. I'm just looking for something that will fit w/o any problems with my drop.. I have a 2 finger gap all around right now, but I plan to go lower when the warm weather kicks in.

The Tire Rack does. The SSR Competition wheel comes in a 17x8 w/ a +48 offset. My car is lowered 1.4 inches, and I havent noticed any rubbing, front or rear. I have 215/40-17 tires, btw.

See here: SSR Competition

Well the lower you go the more problems you might encounter. After a certain point lowering the car is actually detrimental.
Anyway...

17x7.5
+44mm offset
215/40/17 Yokohama Paradas
No rubbing, don't ask me how much I am dropped because I never really measured with a ruler. About a 2 finger gap all around though the rear is a tiny tiny bit lower than the front.
Old pics by the way....kinda wish I still had the amber back there sometimes.
EDIT: this is a good far away picture

re: stock drop on a 5 gen base 5 speed

i am still using stock shocks and springs/wheels and tires - i measured the gap from the lower part of the fender and the center of the rim/wheel.
i did this to have a baseline coz im gonna have an install on the tein ss this weekend.

front right :14 3/8 inches
front left : 14 5/8 inches
rear rught 14 1/8 inches
rear left : 13 7/8 inches
im gonna lower maybe 1.25 inches with a 17x7 44 offset volk GTN - ill post pics later.

i just wanted to point out to ppl who has coilovers who measure it thru the threads and come up uneven in height - the stock height is uneven already.

I have to disagree with you about the uneven height. My car came in just like a surface plate-even within 1/8" stock. Ride height from floor thru centerline of wheel to center of lip in front is 25.5" and the rear of the car is 26.5. The measurements were taken on both my car and an undriven one at the dealership before I lowered.
I will agree however that many take the measurement from the EXACT center of the wheel to the edge of the lip and it is about 1/2 of the numbers I am giving you.
I have put the car on a surface plate and know it is dead square. Yet the spring shock package I have (Neuspeed/Koni) gives the impression that one corner is heavier than the other 3-which is indeed the case.
BTW: The only way to adjust ride height (IMO) is after the install.
Happy Luding and enjoy your new setup.

..wait a sec... so is it the larger the offset the more the wheel/tire sticks out? or is it the other way around. my 17" rims are +40 offset I think and they are almost perfectly flush with the outer fender

the lower the offset i.e 40+mm wheel sticks out farther than a 48+mm

Rubbing is going to depend on more than the offset itself. Your rim width and tire size will be very critical versus amount of drop.
My setup uses +42 AR Carrera rims - 16x7 +42 with 205/50R16 Pirellis. No problems even after full camber adjustment. There are people here who have lowered the same amount or more with 215's without trouble. The 225 size will depend a lot on rim width and aspect ratio. It is important that you understand what happens when you put the tire on a rim. If the tire and rim are matched there will be no bulging of the sidewall beyond the normal amount. Make the tire squat down due to low pressure or incorrect width and you can get rubbing.
Someone out there tried very wide tires and discovered that the inner edge rubbed in front during turns.
My best advice is to use the + sizing system and test fit before spending any money.

For real it does suck how almost no one makes wheels that fit our cars properly where you can get some decent protecting tires

Anyone here run 225/45-16 on 16x7 rims?

I want to run this setup but I am uncertain on what offset the Lude needs. I've heard 45 is safe but it is hard to find this offset in 16s. Any insights? My Lude is lowered around 1.75".

I'm running on 17"x7 Enkei rims with a +40 offset.. with 215/45/17 Dunlop SP Sport W-10s and lowered about 1.5" and I didn't have to roll my fenders or anything. I just had to cut a little tab off from inside the fenders. now my rim/tires look just about flush with the outer edge of my fenders and looks great (well, to me anyways).

so yeah, I don't think +40 offset is that troublesome is it?
