Which offers the most protection...

Okay...I've had my rims for almost a year, and I've finally decided that it's time to put some tires on 'em, and put them on the road. I already know that I'm going to have some serious rubbing problems (18" Z5000's - 42mm offset, Neuspeed race springs - 2"+ drop), but I will shave, roll, tuck, trim, and beat my fenders into submission if need be. Originally, I wanted to run 225/40 tires, but after a little research, I know these will rub quite a bit, so now I'm trying to decide between 225/35's or 215/40's. Which size will protect my rims the best from the occasional pothole/road imperfection? Which size would rub less? Thanks!
